Totally confused now.
To explain what i think people mean... Your title said that this is not a new thread. By definition, it is a new thread. On a forum when you talk about things, you either comment on an existing thread or create a new thread. A "thread" is a series of posts on a topic, which is set in the title.

This thread is titled "A question about the Difference between T1 and T2 and their respective needs, rather than a new thread…" and is a discussion on the differences between T1 and T2

Does that help explain?
 
A forum is the whole website, e.g. this is the Diabetes UK Forum at https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/

A thread is a series of posts under a title, e.g. this thread is "A question about the Difference between T1 and T2 and their respective needs, rather than a new thread…"

A post is a single message, i am writing this post now

A topic is more like the section headers, so this thread is posted in the "General Messageboard" topic, which is appropriate
