Can I just ask for clarification please ? If I am T2 Diabetic but otherwise healthy, do I have to do the 12 week Isolation ? I have read conflicting information. I am staying in anyway but would just like clarification please 🙂 I am an early years teacher, but obviously schools are closed at the moment anyway and I am working from home

No, the 12 week shielding is for particularly vulnerable people suffering from a list of conditions here
which include quite serious conditions, but not diabetes.

As per the govt guidelines as of now, only those with very high risk only need to self isolate or shield. I am T2 diet controlled but my GP suggested me to stay at home given the present situation. At the moment, I leave house only for a quick walk in the park.

I'm also T2 with no other health issues and understand that as such I need to practise stringent social distancing but don't need to isolate myself for 12 weeks. Having said that I've chosen not to go anywhere anyway unless I have to, and so far have stayed at home for 7 days in a row except for a 20-minute walk yesterday evening for a bit of exercise.

Will you do that for 12 weeks ?

So are diabetics included in that 12 weeks . I find it so confusing
Diabetes on it's own does not put people in the strict isolation category. Those who are classed in this group should be informed by the 29 th.

Hiya, Diabetes only come under people with vulnerable condition who needs to be social distancing but not in 12 week shielded category. My GP told to socially isolate as well as he did not want me to take a chance. I think the clarity has to come from NHS and hopefully soon.

Hello Betty Boo 🙂

No. The 12 week full isolation is only for 1.5million ‘extremely vulnerable‘ people (some of whom will have diabetes, but alongside other health challenges). There are 4.8 million people with diabetes, so we are not all included. Some people with diabetes will have been individually recommended to follow the full isolation rules by their GP, or by a letter/SMS from the NHS, but diabetes alone doesn’t mean ‘isolate for 12 weeks’.

People with diabetes are ‘strongly recommended’ to strictly follow the social distancing guidelines. Not all media reports have been very clear on this.
