Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Last year I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. My wife and daughter were away and I received a phone call in the middle of the night telling me that I had diabetes and was I still alive (OK, so not quite that). However, my HbA1c test was sufficiently alarming to cause the emergency doctor to call me.

I immediately gave up sugar, biscuits cakes etc and rediscovered my love of cycling. This hasn't been easy - I cried at Christmas not being able to eat things that I'd have usually have enjoyed. Starting cycling again was difficult as someone who was very unfit. As for taking Metformin, I've been lucky. My stomach is strong, although I have had the occasional more interesting breaking of wind. I have also taken the advice of those on here and cut down on carbs, conducted blood tests etc (the GP prescribed me a blood glucose monitor).

Less than a year later I have had my third assessment. My HbA1c result is 40, my prescription for medication has been reduced and I no longer have to undertake blood tests. I am happier and healthier and even though it can be a struggle with many ups and downs (more still to come), I have no doubt that you can and will improve your life.

WoW great news @aparsonsmoore
you sound like your glad that you can now reduce the medication
can you remember how high your Hba1c was when you were diagnosed

I can't - but I think it could have been over 100. The call in the middle of the night wasn't ideal for noting this information down and GP surgeries seem reluctant (perhaps not surprisingly) to use their time trawling through this information.

This really is a positive post. Well done. 🙂
