Hello Edgar and welcome to the forum. Yogurt is filling and easy if you like it and there are some pleasant low and no added sugar ones around such as yeo valley and a diet one from Ireland obtainable at Sainsburys, I am also a fan of cheese and like the cheddar flavour baby bel. If you like avocado and also prawns they are pretty good too. Personally I hate low fat stuff and it is usually high in carbs and I drink lactose free milk in tea etc or full fat milk. Oat cakes are good too. Nuts are a great favourite with me as well and very filling. Hope you find lots of nice things 🙂

Hi Happydog
Thanks you for your advice. I will look into yogurts. Acocado and prawns will also be on my list. At the moment my finger ends are feeling tender. Pin pricks for blood glucose readings everytime I try something new are the cause but hopefully at the end of testing I will have a list of goodies that I like and my body can get along with.
Best wishes
Edgar

Just in case you don't know:
adjust your finger prick device to it's lowest setting and increase until you get blood (mine is usually set on 3, when I get to 5 it's time for a new needle). It shouldn't hurt until it's taking blood.
Only prick on the sides of the fingers, don't use the pad as this can be painful.

Hi Vicsetter,
Your advice to prick on the sides of fingers seems obvious - but not to me (silly boy). Thanks for the advice. By the way, I change my needle after each sample, is that correct or can I use them multiple times?
Best wishes.

You can use lancets a few times, then they go blunt and start to hurt when you stab. So if ever I get one that hurts, I change it - but not before then.

If it's only you using the bodger, and you are relatively clean (haven't got a dirty job or an insanitary one and haven't been potting up cuttings or cleaning the lav, etc) then there's no need to change after every test.

It's a standing joke in the diabetic community all over the English speaking world - that we only need to change our lancet every St Swithin's day !

Hi

Thanks for the advice on lancets. Don't suppose one can 'wash' the test strips and reuse?

Best wishes.

I think since you have to keep em dry - it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that they aren't washable - anyway they'd fall through the holes in the washing machine drum I should think!

Hi Jenny

The washing machine would not be a solution. I am a single guy and use it only once a year. My birthday was in February. Smilies do not seem to be working, otherwise I would send you a few. Be safe and be happy.

You could try putting them in one of those bra washing thingies, lol.
Unfortunately it's a chemical reaction and only works once and the blood dries up and blocks the small chanel so no chance.
