Bilmey, glad my consultant told me to change sites before I ever got like this!

Northy is this real?

Looks like something has gone south or the others have gone north!

Yup! He had been injecting in the same place for over 30 years 😱 I have to say it's not what I imagined severe lipohypertrophy would look like.

I'm sure his insulin absorption would have been severely affected many years before getting to this stage. He obviously wasn't getting his 12 monthly checks done.

Proper scarey !! His Heath Care Team need sorting or Him 🙄

Don't think there's a treatment. As long as they aren't ridiculous like that, you can leave em alone for a few years and they do sometimes shrink a bit. But when the fat totally disappears so you get a dent rather than a lump - it never comes back so you can't inject there ever again.

That is why we need to be fighting for more use of pump therapy as MDI and mixtard does cause this.

😱

^^ is my face! what the hell! why has no-one ever told me this thing?! my tummy is bad enough after having 2 babies, i do not need it any worse!!!

i only know from here about injection sites, and therefore use my thighs for lantus. only use my tummy for humalog though....maybe i might change that!!! 😱

I'm intrigued by a couple of comments below the article from some people saying that they've been injecting in their abdomens for years (presumably without rotating) and they don't have any lumps.

Is this a case of some people responding differently to the insulin? Maybe they're stick thin people who don't 'go to fat' easily?

Andy 🙂

It looks like a Photoshop'd photo to me!

If it's real then it didn't happen overnight so why didn't he visit his doctor at an early stage?! Madness.

Not photoshopped unfortunately, he was just never checked for over 30 years and thought it was what happened to everyone eventually :(
