It’s Christmas Eve - my first Christmas as a type 2 diabetic.

A slightly strange experience. Instead of gorging on mince pies, I’m watching calories and carbs. The first ever Christmas period where I’m actually losing weight instead of gaining. I’ve avoided all the treats, drinks and indulgences that I’ve always had at this time of year. Boy do I miss mince pies! I’m not the kind of person who can have just one and be done - so I’m better off without if I am to stick to my regime.

I shall be having my Christmas dinner as usual though - am quite excited about having some potatoes! I may skip the Christmas pudding though - or if I do indulge, it will be a tiny taste.

We no longer do presents in my family - I am the baby of the family at 45. We haven’t even put decorations up this year. So it really doesn’t feel too much like Christmas.

But, we aren’t too bothered - we are just happy to spend the day together and watch tv. With my parents being in their 80s, you never know how many Christmases you have left with them - so this time with them is more precious than gold. We love our time together as a family of four.

Weight loss is still going well - 18lbs off. Got my eye screening on the 8th Jan, then Mounjaro on 13th! So next year will be all about transformation.

Wishing you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas. Treasure the time with loved ones - not the food, gifts and trappings. Xxx

My mum's 88 and so I don't care what we do at Christmas as long as she's happy. I still feel guilty that one year (more than 20 years ago) my then-partner and I spent Christmas in Tunisia, to escape family 😱.

Have a great Christmas with your family @Katetype2 and good luck with the mounjaro next year. Onwards and downwards :D

Hmm, I try but it ain't easy. I had my Hba1c last week so at Xmas I can allow myself some wriggle room. Although to add to my joy I am having the cholestrol 'chat' next week. Sigh.

Hope you have an enjoyable few days over the holidays

What was your Hba1c result ? ok I can see it was 36 so that should allow you some wriggle room
Enjoy the day

Merry Christmas @Katetype2

Hope you have a lovely day. I’ve had some really special Christmasses since living with diabetes. And have often been amazed at how well behaved my levels seem to be.

I think having fewer things and enjoying them more intentionally and mindfully can actually enhance the experience.

Enjoy those spuds and the mouthful of pud if you go for it.

Katetype2 I like mince pies. When I was working I used to make sausage rolls and mince pies for my colleagues for my birthday. I made bite size sausage rolls and with the mince pies i put a star on top so less pastry. I've not made sausage rolls for years as hot from the oven they are tempting. This is my first Christmas as a diabetic and first year I haven't bought a packet of mince pies. However one of the cafes I like had small, size of £2 coin mince pies and twice this December I have had one with coffee, the second time after my 44 Hba1c result. I don't often eat Christmas pudding. Last year I had a single one before Christmas. Last few Christmases I've had fish this year I'm having venison sausages, lentils sprouts and red cabbage. Locally made sausages from the butcher, a treat.

You enjoy and have a great day
I've never enjoyed mince pies or Xmas pudding, so won't be tempted, but I will have some roasties with my dinner with a couple of glasses of red wine and some port with the stilton

Love venison sausages. Our butchers in Suffolk used to make them. Since we moved to Lincolnshire I haven't found a new supplier. Turkey crown and beef for dinner today with plenty of veggies

Have you tried Simpsons butchers - branches in Lincoln, Spalding and Stamford. They also supply online, the online site lists venison among the sausages.

I walked up to the top of Steep Hill this time last year, the day after boxing day, but don't remember seeing it. Will look out for it next visit to Lincoln and let you know

I walked up to the top of Steep Hill

It was at the top when it levelled out and on the right hand side... .....but its been so long since ive been that they might have closed

This website lists a few more branches if any of these nearer for you. The Lincoln one not on Steep Hill.

I enjoyed the Venison sausages. There is a lot of venison nearby walking around but not sure who my butcher uses. It's seasonal. However one of the pubs in the village uses this supplier
https://wildvenison.co.uk/contact-us/
which is only a mile from where I live but has an online shop.
