@kevinr - there are now ways of shrinking enlarged prostates/prostate cancers using (?) ultrasound - and in the last few years there have been huge strides made in this connection generally - so if there's a treatment available that your hospital says 'but we don't do that/use that method' - ask to be referred wherever they can and do!

Thanks Trophywench I have had this prostate Cancer for 3 years but they have found a lump on my Teste the size of a walnut and my PSA level as shot up it's been slowly creeping up for the past year I have Hormone Injections every 3 months my consultant told me that Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy is out of the question due to me being on Warfarin for life. They won't stop the Warfarin due to what happened when I went for my Biopsies, the Warfarin was stopped for 16 hours and by the time I got into hospital I had got a blood clot in my lung because I was coughing my head off.

Hi @kevinr I thought Warfarin was being phased out as a blood thinner. Two of my friends who have been on it for years (and for whom it has caused endless grief) are both now on Clopidogrel instead.

I agree with @trophywench there are indeed huge strides in Prostate treatment with ultrasound. It would pay to at least ask about it.

There are some minimally invasive treatments like water or steam ablation or laser ablation but obviously you have to be a suitable candidate. My OH is waiting for his second TURP, they have said he is not suitable for the other procedures.

Hello Pattidevans. My Doctors have not said anything to me about phasing Warfarin out but then again I am usually the last one to get told it's been changed until I go for my Warfarin at the Chemist or my local Anticoagulant Clinic.

It seems to be a postcode lottery unfortunately. Hubby has had excellent treatment for prostate cancer (was referred miles away to a clinic which did robotic surgery) but a friend of ours has had almost archaic treatment. The two friends who have had their warfarin replaced by Clopidogrel were both treated at Plymouth Derriford despite living at the far end of Cornwall.

Hi Pattidevans. To be honest with you I am dreading going for my scans how my luck is I fear the worse but I need to know and what they will have got planned for me.

You clearly do need to know and the faster they can deal with it the better.

Hi Pattidevans. Yes you are right but I have been thinking do I Really want to know if my cancer as started to spread. How will I cope with it as I live on my own it will be a case of I just need to get on with my life and wait and see what happens I may get through it or I may not who knows what's waiting for me. But I can look on the bright side of things and if the worse come to the worse I will be able to be with my younger brother Andrew who I haven't seen for 54 years. Oh oh I have just upset myself thinking about my brother I will have to go and wipe my eyes.
