Tomorrow I'm scheduled for a Colonoscopy and presently drinking GALLONS of Kleen Prep (water used to wash out fish boxes in Billingsgate)

I was advised to skip my Metformin tabs today, but my BG is in double figures (ie) 12.3 this morning after breakfast (fasting since 12 noon) 10.6 at 1pm and 10.0 a few minutes ago.

My question would Kleen Prep effect my blood sugar like that or is it a combo of it and no tabs?

I don't know David, but is it possible that you are feeling stressed by the colonoscopy? This would certainly raise your levels and the lack of metformin wouldn't help that, I would have thought.

Hope everything goes well 🙂

Hi David,
not to sure on this but does met not take a week or so to build up in your system? Thus doubtful missing a dose and no food would not cause the higher numbers.
Perhaps it more to do with stress as Alan says or could your liver have decided it's going to help out as no food equals starving so it done a dump for you.
Hope tomorrow goes well for you.

Hi David

I don't know the answer to your question but I hope that the colonscopy goes well

Hi,
You should have had a leaflet similar to this one.
http://www.northdevonhealth.nhs.uk/...gy/diabetic_advice_colonoscopy_klean_prep.pdf

It is quite usual for blood sugars to rise, even without meds. I have had at least 7 of these investigations in the past and my blood sugars rise even though I do not take meds.
The leaflet I have linked says that you may well get a rise for 24-48 hours but it will go back down again. Even if you may not think so, you are probably stressed about it.

Good luck and hope your procedure goes well.

I have had a colonoscopy twice and I didn't notice an effect on my BG but being Type 1 I still took my insulin so would affect you differently I guess. Hope you are ok with the prep and good luck tomorrow.

David sorry i dont know the answers, but hope today went ok x

Hi David,

Hope the colonscopy has gone ok for you.

Back Home, Colonoscopy over. They found 2 Polyps (adenomas) they were both benign.

Also discovered, I have Diverticulitis. 😱

If I didn't have the procedure I might never of known until problems arose and then it may have been too late.

I currently like an oul windbag, enough gusts of unwanted air to sail around 'the cape' :D
