Hey - This is the first time I've discussed my experiences of Type 1 diabetes. I look forward to talking to you all 🙂

Good morning and welcome to the forum! Lots of awesome people here 🙂

Hi and welcome to the forum - plenty of very experienced and knowledgeable folks round here :D

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Thanks all for the kind intros. Although I've had Type 1 for 25 years, I still feel I have a lot to learn ...

If there was a big secret to divulge about keeping tighter control, what would it be?

By the way, I take Humalog and Lantus ... 😉

Hi mcleo_d, welcome to the forum 🙂 How have things been for you over the past 25 years? I imagine you have seen quite a few changes! We've got quite a few members who have been diagnosed a long time - including a few of over 50 years! 😱 🙂

Anything you want to know, let us know 🙂

Welcome to the forum.

I started learning before you mcleo_d and I still think I learn something new nearly every day, so it's a bit like diabetes this learning thing - ie a chronic condition! LOL

How best to control it? - how about a closed loop insulin pump? And if you could just make that implantable, whilst you spent the rest of the next 10 years finding a cure*, that would suit me fine thanks. (cos there's been a cure due within the next 10 years for nearly a century now I think!)

Meanwhile, an un-closed loop pump is a good substitute and if you can afford a CGM to go with it, even better cos those are rare on the NHS. However the Abbot Libre is very popular and much more affordable. Meanwhile a 'Smart' meter is a good substitute again and those are easily obtained. (Insulinx or Accu-Chek Expert)
