Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1.5 LADA
I was diagnosed with Type 1 (?lada) in 2010 - tablets for 2 days over the weekend and then straight onto insulin when seen by the consultant. I'm not one to use the internet or social media, but am really finding the need to chat about it all atm - it was something I had meant to do straight away - I don't know anyone to chat to who has diabetes.
Hoping to gain lots of info, tips, and reassurances ()

Hi

Like you I’m not a social media person and this is the only forum I belong to.

It’s nice to have the forum for when you feel the need to chat, let off a bit of steam, ask a question, share some good news, a good result etc there’s always someone about. I always feel quite at home with people who “get it”, the everyday ups and downs, little niggles or big worries. It’s a friendly and supportive place. Knowing others are going through the same things helps to make me feel a little less “isolated”.

Even after all these years of type 1 I still learn something most weeks on here most weeks.

Anyway, welcome along.🙂

Welcome to the forum. I am no tech person and I have been glad of help with things I didn’t , and still don’t get, without ever feeling silly. I found this place after a few years, and as @Lisa66 says, it is great to have a place where you can post questions, have a rant, or just share good news. I have found people very supportive.

You might want to tell us a bit about how you manage your diabetes. Are you using injections or a pump? Which insulin’s are you using. On here no questions are considered silly. Just ask.

I inject (Novorapid and Tresiba). My bolus is 1 unit for 10g carbs - I'm sure this should alter for different foods, but I don't number crunch enough for all of the variables. My annual readings are around 7.5
I test several times daily as my working involves frequent short journeys (driving). My weight goes up and down (up atm) - I feel I've been following Slimming World for all my adult life!! I have a sweet tooth!!

As type 1s yourselves - can I ask how often you have hypos?? I was asked if I feel I have more or less than I should - but tbh I don't know have often is 'normal'
