Hi. Don't usually go on forums but thought I'd give it a go.
Back in September last year after about 2months of weight loss and a thirst and dry mouth like a dessert thought I'd see the dr. Had also been getting grumpy and tired more so than normal.
Explained all my symptoms to my dr and then came the question I was expecting "any history of diabetes in the family".
My nan and her 2sisters had it but only type 2. So he checked my sugars and 20.1 mmol. Turned and said. I think your diabetic.
My dr was fab got an appointment at the hospital the same day as an emergency.
Was seen by my nurse who said I'm type 1. At 36 my world changed right there. I have a lil boy who is my world and he knows all my signs when I'm getting a low and will tell me when he sees my hands shake. Now having to test sugars before meals. I'm on 2 types of insulin and carb counting. Takes me 20 mins longer now to eat meals.
Most of my work mates think I'm doing really well, and for the most part they are right. But there are times when it gets me down, and that's when I get the " well at least you know what it is" comments.
Yeh I do but it's still a battle with my body to stay me.
