I think the title says it all. Am starting to get get worried after my initial diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.

Hello @Topaz , welcome to the forum and to the club no one wants to join.
It is perfectly natural to be worried, however I would like to try and reassure you that with the right info and some work by yourself that diabetes can be managed well.
Their is an awful lot of misinformation out there about diabetes, but you have come to the right place to get good info and cyber support.

How did you come to be diagnosed.
Have you been put in any medication for diabetes.

Many of us with T2 have found that at least initially we are given very little advise about the condition and are often left floundering about what to eat.

Basically We usually have no problems with protein or good fats , it’s the starchy carbs we have to worry about .
When you are ready and have a bit if time , have a read through these informative threads

If you decide you want to test so that you can make informed food choices Do ask for a glucose meter but unless a person is on medications that can cause hypo’s ( low blood glucose)
(Metformin doesn’t normally) it is highly likely I you will be told no.
Many here use the SD Codefree meter as it has the cheapest test strips we know of £8 for a pot of 50 other brands have strips that are over £15 , it’s an ongoing cost so price is important.

Ask all the questions you you need to about diabetes, nwe’ll do our best to help.

Hi Topaz, welcome to the forum from another type 2. I was 57 when diagnosed so in much the same boat as you!

As Ljc says, give us some more info, ask any questions, and we'd be pleased to help 🙂

Hello Topaz welcome to the forum, some good advice already. As @Pine Marten & @Ljc says a little more info would be a great help, e.g. blood test figures, medication if any, as a forum we are here to help, you need only to tell us what you wish, take care.

Diagnosed at 57, here. It's a common type of age for it, so it seems. No need to panic - it's amazing how much healthier you can get with a bit of focus on what you eat & a bit of exercise, even for old farts like us 🙂

I gave up smoking 2years ago and use nicotine gum. The gum is sugar free but has starch. I chew 10 - 12 pieces a day. Anyone know if this has a negative affect?
