40 years on!

Hi everyone. Been a T1 for forty years. Quite well controlled on a pump and the Libre. Just booked bariatric surgery to have a sleeve on 12th October. So excited by scared at the same time. Any other Type 1's here that has had WLS?

Bumping this for you @VerityWLS but I don’t remember a Type 1 having such surgery. I do know someone who had the surgery and initially they only ate tiny amounts of food. They also had to lose a certain amount of weight prior to the surgery.

Will you be staying in hospital for monitoring afterwards with regard to the diabetes?

Yes, expecting to stay in two nights. The surgeons endocrinologist will be writing a plan to be followed and my diabetes team are supporting too. Im on a pump and expect the very low calorie liver reduction diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery will help to make a adjustments in readiness for low intake of food after.
