hi all recently diagnosed with type 1...im a hgv driver and cant believe the lack of info or procedures to try and reapply for your license back....i dont think some people understand that your lively hood is in jeopardy...

Have you looked on the DVLA site? There’s a guide on the DVLA website to applying for your licence.

On this page https://www.gov.uk/diabetes-driving

There’s this leaflet that explains the process https://assets.publishing.service.g...for_drivers_with_insulin_treated_diabetes.pdf

There’s also the diabetes uk page that explains the rules

Welcome to the forum @dazmanlfc

Is it a group 2 license you hold?

I think the legal requirement is for 3 months of regular BG checks.

There is an extract of some guidance here:

You must check your blood sugars at least twice a day including days when you’re not driving. Group 2 drivers have to do this twice a day using finger prick testing and record on a blood glucose meter, even if you are using Flash Glucose Monitoring.

You must also check your blood sugars no more than two hours before you drive, every time you drive—and then every two hours of the journey.

When you have your annual licence review you must be able to supply 3 months of uninterrupted evidence of your blood sugar readings (from the twice a day finger prick tests) on your blood glucose meter (glucometer).

Hopefully your employer will be understanding that it is now perfectly possible to drive Group 2 vehicles when using insulin as long as the proper requirements have been met, and precautions are taken.

so my inderstanding is that its a minimum of 2 months before i can reapply and just take it from there...thanks for the info...

@dazmanlfc ,

if you need any additional help, please call our helpline and we have an advocacy service as well.

Welcome @dazmanlfc. I hope you get it sorted with minimal disruption to your life/livelihood. A new diagnosis of type 1 is enough of an upheaval without the added worry.
