I've taken my usual amount of Levemir and used the same ratios I've been using for a couple months yet today I've had four hypos. Not little ones, one was 3.7 and the other three were under 3. As a result I am feeling extremely worse for wear today and treated myself to fish and chips. I normally inject AFTER fatty foods anyway but I was to scared too in case I had another hypo but my head is starting to hurt and I think my sugars may be rising.

I did a lot of gardening yesterday, from 12-7 so that might go some way to explaining it.. Or my pancreas is trying to help me again, which is a nice thought but I'd rather it didn't.

Now, do I inject now? Leave it? Correct later? Take half the dose? My brain isn't working very well tonight so any advice welcomed!!

Check the levels if it's high then correct it mine always go up slowly after eating fatty foods like chips I have just ate a kebab but I know it will go up in few hours even more so am ready to jab a few more units if needed

I'm currently 7.6mmol. I don't understand why though as I didn't inject at all for my tea!

Could the warmer weather and gardening activity mean you need less insulin?

Gardening has a lot to answer for..sorry to hear you've had such a bad hypo day @Rosiecarmel it really is the pits :( I hope someone much more experienced and knowledgeable comes along soon, as I am neither, but perhaps you should check your levels hourly to see what they are?
I'm sorry I can't be more helpful like you were for me last week. Like you say your pancreas may be trying to be helpful in the most unhelpful way possible.

If I have a hypo I would treat the hypo first then if am gonna eat after inject for the food am eating least some units so if it does go high it don't go to high I get a lot of days where I get hypos throughout the day night ones have eased tho more so when am active even walking round the house drops it

I've learned the hard way that (unless you're Alan!) you should always have some basal, no matter how many hypos you've had (though I wouldn't inject it while hypo), but you may well need to lower your basal dose if you're doing more activity or the weather's changing, so I'd definitely have a bit less than usual and see how things go over the next few days.

I can't really help with the bolus because I always inject before (or occasionally during) eating, never afterwards. I'd be inclined to inject something, given the chips - but perhaps not as much as you usually would, as you've had such a low day! Or if you're going to be awake for a while longer you could always correct later if you find you're high when you're en route to bed.

The headache is probably a post-hypo headache - I get a lot of those! Hope you are feeling rather less the worse for wear tomorrow.

Sorry I can't offer any help or suggestions Rosie but I do hope you soon start to feel much better and manage a good nights sleep.

Thank you for the advice everyone! I'm going to stay up for a couple more hours and test evert hour. My head is killing and I'm feeling very grumpy! I'm knackered so if I don't stay awake for that long I'm going to set a 2am alarm and possibly a 4am one.

Thanks Juliet I normally have 10 units on a night time but after reading your message I took 5 instead. You're right, I should take my basal, I just panicked and didn't want to take any! I hate days like this.

Some days I feel very confident with managing my diabetes but days like these make me feel like I'm completely out of my depth again...

I think you may be Right! Lesson learned: gardening and exercise is clearly bad for you!!

Rosie - we are ALL like you when stuff goes haywire - and sometimes there IS no logical explanation (but in your case it's the weather and temperature being a bit kinder, combined with the gardening - it's instantly BG lowering BUTTTT - the effect can last up to 48 hours. I find energetic hoovering (the sort where you actually move furniture) is just as fatal and long lasting - so that's my excuse for not being that particular more often ! LOL

Have a paracetamol and get some sleep. You'll feel better in the morning!

Gosh sorry to see you had so many hypos rosie x hope your ok

Sorry to hear that you had such a bad time with the hypos yesterday. How are you today?
