hello, so been on a strict diet and bloods have reduced from 20 to 10. Walking each day and have a work rota now where my colleges take me out each lunchtime. Again my doctors and team have been excellent. One thing I do find which must be really frustrating is the mix of opinions on what is good for you and what isn't. What experiences can you share with me on good foods? I found this week lentil pasta which is great which has low carbs, sugars and salt.

Well done Keny. Only experience I've got is if I don't do low carb my bg soars into the stratosphere. I'm absolutely gutted that I can't pig out like I used to. Lentil pasta makes me think of hippies. :D Just gotta suck it up and be good, so that means meat, fish, vegetables, salads, cheese. The good thing is these foods make me feel on top of the world so there's that.

Welcome.
We seem to have different reactions to foods that spike or blood sugar.

Hello to Keny.

Hi Keny, congratulations on the achievements....

Though no saint I avoid Bread, Pasta (though the lentil pasta sounds interesting), Rice, Cereals & Starchy vegetables; replacing them with green leafy vegetables instead. My diet has gone from a little repetitive to quite inventive these days as I try to find new ways to present my food in a Low Carb context.

Hi all now lost nearly 4 stone and blood sugar normal. spiked to 6.6 this morning but that was because I has Kentucky fried chicken last night. Sample of My diet consists of
B scrabbled egg made with two eggs and milk
L salad with chicken or sardines in tomatoe sauce, or cottage cheese or ham
D lentil pasta and home made mince with tomatoes, chick peas, garlic, apple cider, tomato purée, kidney beans. 1/2 glass of red wine.
Snack two slices of cheddar cheese and a stewed apple.
Walk to break up the craving for snacks
I am not drinking enough water so need to increase.

Take care all

Great news on the weight loss.
I sometimes add some cheese and Worcestershire sauce to scrambled eggs.
Dinner sounds good, I've never tried lentil pasta , how do you make it.

Hi you can buy it in Tescos under the gluten free section, taste just like normal pasta. Aldi also do gluten free pasta which has reduced carbs.

HI just an update so 3 months since diagnose T2, sugars normal and nearly 5 stone lost all down to reducing carbs and sugars, enjoying diet which is now a life style change. Fasting now for my blood test tomorrow fingers cross, results back next Tuesday. I read the pages on this forum inside out and I am as confused as when I first got diagnose about what's good and what's bad for you. I believe do what you feel works for you, I love gruitefruit yet says it can be fatal? So no more gratefruits for me. The lentil pasta and the Rawpasta Spaghetti 200g Konjac Shirataki, Low Carb, Glutenfree was a great find. Off for a bike ride in the dark, lights on, good luck we can beat this.

You're doing great, Keny. I find sticking to low carb really easy. It's just knowing what will happen if I revert back to my old eating habits that keeps me on track. I'm now 4 stone lighter than before diagnosis & there is a possibility that after my next HbA1c check in Oct, that I will be taken off the diabetic register.

Wow Keny you are doing really well and it is so good to have such a positive attitude. Give yourself a big pat on the back. Yes, we can get this thing under control as you are showing. Good luck with it and I am sure that you will have a good result from your blood test 🙂

Well done you, I luv your gungho attitude and way of life. 🙂 I was always under the impression though that diabetics weren't supposed to miss a meal? I didn't think we were allowed to fast? Is this old-fashioned thinking now?

Yes, we are allowed to fast and miss meals. If you are on anything which will lower your big into hypo territory then you will need to be careful, but even then it can be done. For both t1 and t2d.
I was dx in June and have been fasting and lchfing since then. I have lost nearly 4st and my bg s never goes above 7 now. Just about to get my first hba1c done since dx.

Wow, well done. I think you're going to see a huge improvement in your Hb1ac.

Hi Ditto , Kentoldlady is correct. I remember being told not to miss meals and have two snacks every day 😱, that was back in the 90s . If I'm not hungry I miss lunch, this happens quite often and seldom have a snack.

Thanks. I hope so. I have been trying the blood sugar diet but with my own food. The recipes in the book are really fiddly.
It has not been too hard, tbh, and I am very attached to my eyesight. Fear is a great motivator.
And forums like this one are always a good source of information.
