I had my first AZ jab 7 weeks ago, no side effects, my second one is on the 12th May, I'm now terrified about this! Does T2 make you more susceptible to blood clots? Does Metformin, Simvistatin, Gliclazide cause blood clots? I'm panicking as I suffer with severe anxiety and being perimenapausal my health anxiety is high!

Reports I've heard are that all the problems so far have been after the first dose. (Perhaps because it's some weird individual reaction to the vaccine, so if you don't get it from the first dose you'll be OK with the second. But the numbers are so small that I don't think anyone's that sure of anything.)

Makes sense to seek advice if you get unusual headaches or other unusual symptoms a few days after the vaccination, but otherwise I suggest ignoring the risk.

Thanks Bruce, I just panic because of anxiety!

The sort of blood clots that are causing the problems aren’t the normal sort that some people develop, but a sort of rare immune response. I don’t think there’s any link been found to any drugs a person might be on, or preexisitng conditions they may have.
Apparently there is less chance of one of these clots than there is of developing Guillain-Barré syndrome after the flu jab, and that has never stopped me getting my flu jab annually.

Thanks Robin, your advice is appreciated.

As you were fine after the first dose, there is no need to panic. Having the jab is far better than having Covid I would have thought.
I came to the conclusion that as I'm double the age of the 30 cut off mark for the AV vaccine then there's no point in even wasting time thinking what if.🙂

Blood clots per million people:

Flying: 1,000
Oral contraceptive: 500
Vaccine: 4

Exactly! Or, as someone else said on the TV, you are twice as likely to be knocked down by a car (ie not very likely day to day). But nobody stops driving or crossing the road.

Yep - Jonathan van Tam said exactly that on TV.

Please try to relax @nikki1111 - you had no issues with the first dose, and the blood clots are extremely rare and seem to be happening in young people.

It must be really difficult to have all these stories circulating when you have health anxiety :( - but the you have already had the jab once and you were fine.
