I think my time has come guys !

Booking myself emergency appointment this morning. Woke up BS 14 and was 17 last night. Feel relatively okay, just shakey probs cause im worried and a bit sicky. I've got stomach cramps? Haven't got any ketone sticks but going to buy some this morning. Supposed to have 4hr lecture but really in a foul mood anyway.

Haven't seen anything lower than 7 for a week and that was at 4am.

GP will probably not have a clue what to do though...

Managed to get an appointment at 11 earliest they could do. Told them to ring me if any otherwise. She did say could see another doc than the usual but obviously i'm already complicated case so better to see who usually deals with me.

(excuse the dramaticness)

If you are worried, don't wait for an appointment, go to A&E or phone up NHS direct. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Liz, don't apologise!!! We are all hoping you're ok and get some answers today.

Good luck and keeping everything crossed for you 🙂

Hey everyone

Just had my appointment. He honestly doesn't have a clue what to do. Has told me to contact my consultant to see if they can suggest anything or contact him to help.

Problem is whilst they aren't coming down greatly sometimes they don't have a stable pattern, I still have readings in the 4s from the past few days. So yeah, no idea what to do. Night times are a problem at the moment it seems but I can bring it down slowley but surely during the day.

Anyway, except from that they have given me a True Result Meter... its impressively small! I didn't mind it when I first looked at it...BUT it gave me a result of 10.9 when my One Touch gave me a 11.9 and my back up One Touch a 12.3 ..... surely this isn't good!

and why does this have to happen with a week left of uni, 2 presentations to do and 4 small reports :(

Can't offer any more advice than the others have but hope you can get sorted soon. We LADA's seem to be a real nuisance don't we ?

I have a little True-Result meter and I think it's great - have used the True-Result meters since diagnosis 3 years ago. They use a mere pinhead of blood to test and their backup-service is really great (I have had a new meter, battery, finger pricker by next day delivery).

Northerner has explained about the percentage difference in meter readings somewhere - it's usually nothing to worry about I think as long as as the difference isn't too great: e.g. one saying 5 and another meter saying 12.

Hi Liz don't be too concerned about the difference in the bms on your meters. The strips have a 20% error on them if the 11.9 is the most accurate then the others are within that range. I know it can be disconcerting sometimes to think what do I believe but the readings are there as a guide.

I think that your Dr could have contacted your consultant on your behalf. You might get a response faster or do you have a DSN who you could contact. If like at my hospital you have to call them before 10, then call the switch board and ask for them to be bleeped, as long as you don't make a habit of bleeping them I think they will be OK with that.

Hi Liz, maybe you could (if you have time) give us a couple of days of tests, insulin taken and meals (carbs) eaten and I'm sure someone on here will be able to make some suggestions - the guys were great when I was having nightmares with mine.

Nothing to lose.... 🙂

Part of Liz's problem is that she's not yet on insulin Katie, so can't intervene to control the highs by correcting :(

Just a suggestion and it might help show a pattern you can wor with.

Keep a note of the readings on your meter, what you have been doing and eaten and what kind of mood you are in. All kinds of things affect your readings, so it may help point to a pattern or give you something to work with.

d'oh. sorry Liz :( thought I was being helpful! but maybe you can do it, just without the insulin?? you'd be surprised what patterns you find when you take a step back and look at it all in one go....

Yep! I do exactly that, i've got MONTHS (~8 now) of blood sugar readings. It would help if I was more consistant with them and tested exactly at 2hrs ect but I do what I can.

Problem is there just is no pattern with my blood sugars, which is exactly why the doctor felt he could not do anything today and my consultant needs to be involved.

Obviously certain foods are going to affect it more than others but it can no longer be controlled by that it seems! Sort of hoping i've got some sort of underlying infection thats pushing it up and in a week or so it will all come back down again... you never know 🙂

I guess the end of term and stress of work and the fact i'm in most days and not getting out is definately not helping! But my boyfriends coming tomorrow so should take off a large chunk of my worry! Plus a Nandos will be in order and i'm sure thats some kind of endorphinous drug.

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! After a 1pm Pesto Omelette.... we now have a 5.9 :D
