Hello again everyone. I last posted a couple of months ago when I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes. At the time I was told my 3 month average was 71, well since then I have been reading quite a lot (especially in here) and trying to change my diet.
Just had another blood test and have been told my 3 month average has gone down to 46.
The nurse seemed pleased so I guess I am doing something right!

Hi Jason. And my word you've been doing something very right I'd say! Well done and keep on doing it 🙂

Great result, well done - your efforts our clearly paying off

That is an excellent result Jason - well done for learning how to manage things so well in such a short time! 🙂 Keep up the good work! 🙂

Well done Jason that result is certainly something to shout about

Thanks everyone. I have been using a blood glucose meter to help me understand what foods I shouldn't eat, even though the nurse advised against it.
Good on you Jason thats the main reason to test and use a meter .I would love it if all the nurses who tell us not to test would come on here one day and actually see and hear what there telling us is not correct and we SHOULD be testing

Nice to hear another positive post Jason.
Well done on your good work , your an inspiration ,especially to our newest members on how we can adjust to living a healthy happy life after been diagnosed with diabetes.
Keep up the good work .

Is 46 ( I don't even know the units!) a level I can expect to remain at if I continue my diet, or can I expect it to drop further? What is a level to aim for long term?

Fantastic result..... Hope you told the nurse that the meter helped you get there....

James,
Thanks for the target levels, these are the values I am referring to when I use my meter. What I cannot understand is how these equate to the levels I have had of 71 and 46 for a 3 month average.
Edited to add: I have found an online guide so am I bit more clued up now!

The 3-monthly figure is measuring something different to the fingerpricks, and uses different units, so the two are not directly comparable (certainly not the bare numbers! 😱). The 3-monthly (HbA1c) figure is a sort of average over the past 6-12 weeks and is measured in mmol/mol, whereas the fingerprick is a 'snapshot' of a moment in time, and is measured in mmol/l 🙂

The fingerprick should also not be compared directly to the percentage numbers you may see around - these were used prior to changing to expressing the HbA1c in mmol/mol in 2013.

Hopefully Jason - you'll get it down even further although 46 is excellent for someone as newly diagnosed as yourself anyway!

Non diabetics are usually around the 35 mark (5.5% in 'old' figures) but it would be incredible to get back to those levels when a bit of you isn't working properly - so I'd say 'Just aim lower than you are right now' - and then be pleased whatever you manage - but if you make something too low into your target to aim for - then it's setting yourself up to fail, which is daft.

Yes, well done Jason. I must take a leaf outta your book. 🙂

What a result Jason! Xx

A quick update as I have just had another HbA1c test, 5 months after the last one. This has shown a result of 39 so still improving.
Brilliant , you've obviously worked very hard.
Um did you know that's out of diabetic range IMG_0424.GIFIMG_0424.GIFIMG_0424.GIF
