Well I finally had my first set of bloods done (diagnosed 5 weeks ago, with a hba1c of 143) and one of the results is surprising.
First the not so good news as my hba is 120 so coming down. The rest are all OK liver, kidney, thyroid, iron etc now the surprise (at least to the nurse) is my cholesterol level of 5.4 ("norm" is 5) as with such a high hba1c she expected it to be much higher.
My finger tests generally run around 7(before) to 8/9 (2 hours after). So I thought I'd share the news.

Well done, that’s a great reduction in a1c and if you keep doing what you’re doing that a1c will come down further. You’ve only been diagnosed 5 weeks but the a1c is an average of the last 3 months, so it will still have some old high bgs affecting it as well as your current much improved levels.

Thanks for the update @Stuvart

Your BGs look in really good shape after meals, and you’ve made a great reduction in your A1c. Don’t feel disheartened that your long-term result hasn’t divebombed - a slower more gradual reduction in HbA1c is much gentler on the fine blood vessels and nerves and will give your body time to adjust and adapt. Reducing down from a high level too quickly can actually cause problems, so slow and steady is the better approach 🙂
