Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I was diagnosed with T2 at the end of November 19, with a HbAC1 of 11.7, I'm 47. I was put straight onto Metformin 3x a day. It was not entirely unexpected as both parents are/were T2 and I was weighing in at 17 stone. I actually thought I was having a breakdown at the time, I was so stressed and just felt dreadful. After almost a month, my levels had dropped to 9.6, I was trying to be careful and cut my carbs right down.

Well fast forward to today, when I went to the docs following last weeks blood test, and I am 5.6 !!!! I am over the moon. I have been working so hard on this. I've lost 2 stone 4 to date and feel so much better. I have been trying to eat keto, but I haven't been super strict. I have cut refined carbs, potato, carby fruits. I'm going to carry on, see how low I can go (bloods & weight) and when these horrendous times are over, enjoy a mega shopping trip for a new wardrobe!

Today I just saw the nurse, so I'm hoping that when a doctor reviews my results they will at least cut my meds. I don't want to chase as the results have only come in today, and with the current situation, I don't want to shout too loud - what does anyone think? Will I be medication free? I really hope so.

Hi & welcome to the forum @Candlish - Its so nice to hear a success story - well done you! They say, the only way is up - but quite the opposite in our case DOWN is the aim 🙂 - and your results are coming down brilliantly, they reflect all you hard work, keep it going. Congrats!

Well a bit too early on to drop Metformin I'd think but at the brilliant rate you've done so far, I'd think NP dropping at least one of the 3 a day after next check will be no prob. Need to do it steadily, cos you can't really judge how much the metformin has helped/is helping/not helping right now.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Keeping on doing what I'm doing. I will be med free eventually!

Oh wow, I am so pleased for you. You have obviously worked so hard on gaining control of your diabetes.
TBH I think they will gradually reduce your Metformin, but you may have to wait till your next blood test and review till they start reducing them.
