Relationship to Diabetes

🙂Hi all,

Was just about to put this in a PM to Bev, Mand and Patricia and then thought this is slightly ridiculous! (great reading your thread Patricia!).

Im not trying to get your children addicted to You Tube! but just wanted to say, I really love this guy "1happydiabetic"! He is an american bloke who has type 1 diabetes and uses a cosmo pump. He puts short vidoes on You Tube about his experiences and about Diabetes in general, he is very upbeat and has a nice humour, but also has some very useful tips.

Thought Id do a general post incase anyone else wants to have a look and might enjoy it. But I am also wondering who else on here is a fan?! 😉. Just watched one back and thought this could be right up Alex's street to see another fella chatting about pumps etc- might appeal.

lol it is quality to watch

Thanks Sugarbum! Will take a look and tell my son about it.

Ps my kids already addicted to you tube!! Hehe!

Ah I like this guy have seen his videos before. I think it's him who has got one about the amount of time you spend 'being a diabetic'.

I did start a thread for favourite diabetes you tube videos, but it didn't get much of a response, maybe we can add some here.

Hi Sugarbum!

Thanks - i just watched it - i think he is great and has a great attitude towards diabetes! I will show Alex when he gets home from school. He has some great advice and puts it over in a cool non-medical way - would suit teenagers i think! By the way, when do you go on your pump? Are you doing a blog? please say yes - would be great to read your experience of it all!:DBev

Sugarbum, I have just taken a look at the web site you recommended and i agree with Bev that it is a 'cool' way to educate youngsters. Will get my son to take a look. Actually, i have learned a few 'pump' tips already from watching bits of it!

I would like to second Bev's request for you to do a thread when you go on your pump. I have found Patricia's invaluable already. I will do one when when my son starts on his pump (7th July). :D

Just cannot believe how much better i feel since finding this support group. I was feeling so alone with it all but now i feel supported and more positive. Thanks everyone! 🙂

glad you both liking it! Im not big on you tube myself, but found this guy by accident when my DSN gave me a list of you tube vids to watch before choosing my pump! She has got me addicted! Basically she insisted I watch the set changes for medtronic and animas and some of the teaching videos, they must have bored me silly because I found this "1happydiabetic" bloke hillarious! Well, at least he seemed refreshing after 2 hours on the medtronic pump school (zzzzzZZZZZZ!).

I would love to do a thread on the pump when it get it, it s a shame there is not a "blog" section to this website because then I could add to it like a diary, I might write something for my own personal reference anyway on my laptop. Loving Patricias work, I think her son might find it really interesting to re-read all her thoughts in a few years time.

Still got just under 3 weeks to go and getting more and more impatient....m even contemplating a "pump party" with a few friends by the river! Celebrate this LONG journey i have been on getting this, and of course, any excuse for a party!!!

Hope you all well. Mand I really agree, feeling great with this support group!

I agree, it would be great if there was a 'blog' style section not sure if the vbulletin software allows for such a thing (it's the software 'engine' behind a lot of forums)....

...just had a quick google and it appears it does -

"vBulletin Blog is a fully-featured blogging add-on that enables community members to create their very own online blogs within vBulletin. Giving members a place to post thoughts, ideas and musings will keep users returning to the community again and again, and advanced administration features allow forum owners and moderators to keep control and integrate Blog into vBulletin?s existing look and feel"

Coo! It's something Admin might want to consider, but she's a very busy lady at the moment, and probably will be for a while yet once baby arrives!🙂

Have your party, Sugarbum! You deserve it! :D:D

Thats cool, northener, good work!

A "blog" type thing could be the answer to not boring the socks off the part of the community that arent interested in pumps, or make it a good reference for if someone changes their mind. What could be a good idea if admin were to consider the application (I agree, baby means busy!) is if people were blogging who use different pumps.....that could be quite clever 😉

Great ideas here, love it. Actually did have a blog of my own (about my other work etc), but it was becoming a 'diabetes blog' so stopped it for the moment, devoted time to writing actually on paper...

Now wonder about the general gist here...Although I have found on internet journeys search engines for 'diabetes blogs' (which turn up quite a few)...Perhaps what we're talking about is pump oriented? Don't know. There was an interesting spot on a US blog about pump terminology, and how everyone who is connected with a person on a pump begins to use it and recognise it: pump me up! and fire up that insulin! etc when a pudding comes out...

Anyway, I'm rambling now. I'd really welcome a group blog though. It's very possible to create one with lots of contributors...maybe we should do this?
Thanks for kind words guys -- just as useful for me though of course!

Sugarbum: have a party. It's a hell of a road to get where you're going.

Re vid: will check it out! Like other sons, mine addicted to you tube as well, esp for game cheats, but that's another story...Thank you!

haha! all sounds good Patricia! take care xx

This group blog sounds a great idea, i haven't any children with diabetes nor do i use a pump.
Not really a big fan of you tube , but i saw the video & thought it was fantastic, educational & hillarious.
I have learn't quite a bit in this forum in such a short time, thank you all for the advice & the education lessons.

There could be blogs on all sorts of topics, not necessarily just pumps and children. I think it can be very useful to follow the real-life, day-to-day, ups-and-downs (haha! look at how many hyphens I used there!) of people in all sorts of different circumstances.🙂

I agree 100% Northerner🙂
