Hope you get some good support from your team Jodz. Just wondered today whether you have ever tested your basal level? I find it very hard to get meal doses/corrections to work well if my basal is just a little out. You can test your basal insulin activity systematically, though it helps if you can get levels down into range to start with (basically you skip a meal and test repeatedly until the next mealtime to see if your basal keeps you steady).

Basic idea here: http://www.everydayupsanddowns.co.uk/2010/06/basal-driving-me-bonkers.html Shiv knows a link to a more thorough method.

Hope your DSN can help you out. Stick at it, you're making great progress, even if it doesn't feel like it right now.

Okieee, just away to put tea on and BG is.... :( 21.1.

One perfect reading the other night and since then it has been hell.

Doin everything like i should and it's getting me nowhere!

This is why i never bother testing lol.

Cause i don't like what i see, so if i can't see it i can't dislike it.

Hope this persiverance starts to pay off soon!

Jodi,

Hi again Jodi,

Wow, it is as if what you are writing is just like me but 2 to 3 years ago. As I've said, I've run high for years, I've avoiding testing for exact same reasons you've said. Its like a debt, dont open the letter coz dont wanna know. same with testing, if I was high I'd then feel mega mega guilty that I hadn't done anything about it. But I am now back on track and testing, carb counting and injecting. It has taken a long long time to get right, get HBA1c down and only May had all clear for baby. My HBA was fluctuating from 10.5-12% I now have it right down to the upper 'ideal' limits of 7.5% not perfect but the healthcare team will ideally like for your HBA to be 8% or under. Unless I haven't read all the posts properly, how long have you had the big D for and what was your last HBA1C reading?

You do need to get to see someone, I have just started laser treatment, pains in feet from nerve damage and also sweat really bad when I eat, this apparantly is autonomic neuropathy and I have damage a gland(paratoid?), so please carry on, well done with testing, well done with injecting even if your after meal results are still high, it is all painting an important picture for your DSN. Maybe they could offer you a monitor which records your levels 24/7 for a few days...worth an ask and worth the results it can produce, think its the CGMS monitor(? was mentioned in previous post)

No lecture here either re young mum, I wish I had done it sooner and as others have mentioned the risk of child getting it, is not as high thankfully, think there'd be a load more of diabetics running around if so..Alan wouldn't be able to cope with the forum traffic!😱 I have a book by Ragnas someone(?) about adolescents and yound adults and a section on pregnancy, it does say that there are lower pregnancy risks to the mother as you get older, after reading that I felt a bit better I was 28!!!!!
Dont forget that as soon as HBA ok and get all clear from doc, get that Folic Acid on script!!!!!

(how does the whole inject in breast thing go down? Ouch ouch ouch,)

I have been Diabetic for nearly 5 years now :( Got diagnosed just as i was leaving school and life was gettin tough lol!

Think i will ask about that 24/7 monotoring, would really really help me!

Doctor tomorrow so will ask him 🙂

Shiv- I would contact the DSN directly but i have no contact details for him/her or the local hospital.

My last HBA1C Was 7. something but that was like... Hmmm... 3 years ago :s

Moved around quite a bit in the past few years ( since i got kicked out the family home at 16) so haven't really kept in touch with any Diabetic related medical folks!

And as for the injecting in the breast 🙂 i find it ALOT better, you don't get the same nippy feeling you regularly get with injecting in ur stomach etc.

Just try it 😛.

Jodi,

Hi Jodi, ask you GP tomorrow for a referral to a consultant-led clinic so you can get to speak to a DSN 🙂

...I got diagnosed as leaving school too...horrible when you just get freedom and independance to then be restricted all over again!

...think you need to stress this as a major factor for your doctor to push this referral through, the less time waiting, the better as it will take a while to trial and error your doses and to allow for minor blips.

...still not quite convinced that no pain from inject in the breast? Alan...maybe you'd like to trial this new injection site and report back!😱

Jodi, how have your levels been today??

Jodi, how have your levels been today??

Caotic (Not a good speller as u can tell)!

They were as follows...

Before breakfast ( Half slice of toast ) 19.6

2Hrs Later 13.4

Before Dinner (Didn't eat) 9.2

2Hrs Later 10.3

Before Tea 13.6 (I snacked on a slice of toast but didn't have insulin on me! 😱!) Stupid i know!

Then at about 12am i was at 4.0, as i'm used to sitting high all the time this was HYPO for me!

I aided this with a bottle of Lucozade and some M'n'M's.

45 mins later and i was sittin at a very reasonable 8.5.

And now at bed time i am sitting at... 4.9  Don't like the look of that so going to set an alarm for in a few hours and see what i'm at.

See if the reason for my highs in the morning is due to Hypo's in the night that fail to wake me from my much loved slumber😛

Will keep you guys posted 🙂

Jodi,

Doc said he doesnt want me to see the DSN just yet, he would prefer me to have more readings so she has a better idea of whats going on with my sugars.

I was a bit pissed by this but at the same time i understand where he is coming from.

Not too long till my appointment now anyway...

BG just now is....1.2.. I suppose it's not too bad considerin 🙂

What??? 1.2? Get some lucozade down your neck pronto! 😱

1.2 Jodz? That's either a severe hypo or a minor typo. Are you really 1.2? If you are get help at once.

Typo I think, the second post said 15.2

What are the symptoms/problems that you have that make you reluctant to eat during the day?

Minor typo.

Don't worry!

Stop paniking lol, itwas a minor typo this morning, it was 15.2 not 1.2 🙂

I wouldnt have been on the computer typing a message if it was that low!

Even i'm not that ignorant when it comes to my Diabetes.

Some people can still appear to function OK when that low - you never know! Glad to hear it was a false alarm - it's a shame you can't get regular readings in between the 1.2 and 15.2! 🙂

I suppose in the long run a few more days won't hurt from a period of erratic readings but I don't think that I would have agreed with the doc's comments. I definately would have contested him. The costs to refer you to a DSN will be a lot less than that of the costs of long term complications or a hospital admission from DKA!!!

At the end of the day Jodi, it is YOUR diabetes, not the doctors. This is a common attitude I have found over the years of GP's. THey seem so precious of their powers, to be the only one you refer to but then to give you access to a much more knowledgeable DSN would put them to shame, maybe he doesn't want that to be exposed! (me a bit cynical? Of course!) I have had such difficulty in the past even getting blood results out of doctors which is my personal information, but back being younger, I was never confident enough to speak up, now is deffo not the case...I detect from your replies that you are quite confident also but please, shout at the doc, demand what you want to happen with your care. The DSN would be able to work with your results whether you were referred with one reading or one thousand readings. Plus if you have a reasonable meter, they store a whole ruckload of results, how many does your doc want! God, your doc is making me angry now!😡 LOL
