I have been on the change for life programme for just about a year. In that time i have the Xpert course and learned about carb counting and have started swimming 25 lengths twice a week. In doing so i have managed to reduce my insulin intake by by 15u a day. But even on a 90 carbs diet i have NOT lost any weight 😡. the next step is combining 90carbs with a 1200cals diet. But i am really struggling to get my head around it. On the days i have made the effort i finish the day feeling hungry and end up blowing it😳

I am really hoping that someone here is doing 1200cals a day so i can compare notes- because i am on the verge of giving up.

I have to see the bariatric specialist in six weeks and i weigh the same now at when i first saw her.:(

Hi Coffeesnob. I am going quite low with my calories because I cant exercise so really diet is my only way to bring my weight and BG down. It sounds counterintuitive, but eating fat really helps with weight loss for me. It reduces my appetite and stops me overeating. Are you including any healthy fats in your meals? If hunger is defeating you, fat intake is something you could look at. Change for life is an NHS thing, am I right? If so, they probably recommend a low fat diet, but as I've discovered from this forum, NHS dietary advice isnt always suitable for us diabetics.

hi ginger. I like you i cant exercise- i do swim 2ice a week but the rest of the time i use a wheelchair. yes change for life is an NHS thing but here in barnsley it as a gate way service into really great care for diabetics- as long as you see the diabetic dietition that is. yes i do include healthy fat mainly olive oil as my diet is Mediterranean based. the biggest issue is that i do not over eat my weight has been stable for the past 15 years. I have under active thyroid which is a weight gain condition - i take insulin & linagliptin and i cant excercise. they say that the difference between weight gain and weight loss is just 200 calories.for the past 9 months i have been on 90 cards a day and although making mostly healthy choices have not had to worry about fat - my OH has lost 4 stone on this diet but i have not lost an once- because of this they have taken to the next level.

before dieting i kept a food diary when they looked at it i was consuming on average 1400 calories a day but it was carb heavy- So i was taught carb counting and my hba1c went from 74 to 53 in three months. but no weight loss.
