Look: we need sugar to survive, both physically and emotionally. But, even with fruit, you can inadvertently have too much of a good thing.

That said, you shouldn't just cut out fruit altogether when trying to limit sugar intake. Fruits contain important nutrients like vitamin C, fibre, and antioxidants – and increasing your intake of fruits and vegetables has been shown to reduce your cancer and mortality risk.

I'm sure some of you are going to disagree with some of the suggestions....

Cucumbers and courgettes are NOT fruits, I don't care what they say! 😱 😉 Actually this list made me realise that I haven't had grapefruit since diagnosis because I was put on statins and you're not supposed to eat grapefruit - I stopped the statins after 4 months, but nearly 10 years on have yet to have a grapefruit! Might have to buy one tomorrow! 🙂

What a silly statement - I realise it is from the article - but what a stupid thing to put into print. People might actually believe it.

Enjoy your grapefruit 🙂 I have to disagree with you about courgettes and cucumbers though. From the plant-science point of view cucumbers and courgettes are fruit - they develop from a flower and contain the seeds for the next generation of the plant.

Whilst I'm at it, avocados and olives are not fruits either, they are false pears and false grapes! 😱 😉 You'll be telling me next that a strawberry is not a real berry and a peanut isn't a nut! 😱 😉 :D

Rather liberal interpration of what is a fruit. Avocado as a dessert? (It’s not even food as far as I’m concerned) It’s a drupe. There’s a world shortage, anyway.

And courgettes are low in sugar because they have to live in the veg aisle of supermarkets. As do tomatoes, but that’s an argument even the Victorians had.

I don’t disagree with any of the suggestions, though, even the non fruit

Guess you don't fancy avocado ice cream then? 😉

I am not a fan of squidgy avocado :(

Nowt wrong with fruit unless you want to be constipated and at risk of bowel cancer. It's full of vitamins, minerals and fibre.

I’ve got a higher risk of bowel cancer no matter what I eat. That’s why I have regular colonoscopies. I’ve got a higher risk of pancreatic cancer because I have chronic pancreatitis, though as a lifetime risk that is still tiny.

1 in 3 (or 2, depending on the data used) of us will get cancer of some sort in our lifetime, and around that number die as a result of cancer.

It’ll get you eventually whatever you eat, if your numbers up. Those stats never change.

It’s being so cheery that keeps me going:D
