The laxative effects have always been mentioned on the packets and jars of these 'diabetic' products if people could be bothered to read them as indeed they are on things like sugar free chewing gum.

As regards food labelling the best one was on a bottle of milk where for allergies it stated 'contains milk.' 🙄

And a bag of peanuts amazingly contains nuts, I bet nobody knew that either :D

I was looking at some diabetic jam in Tesco & the carbs were higher than regular jam!

In all fairness to Thursday cottage jams that is a very old label that @Northerner is showing in his first post. The Jams are all labelled reduced sugar. Oh and the jam is also lower carb than all of the others I have ever found and lovely which is an added bonus. :D

In this day and age I would count that as a miracle.

Blimey, Mike, good job you're not dyslexic as well.😛

I am glad diabetic friendly and suitable for diabetics labels are being removed from shelves as these items are/were often more expensive and had more fat, calories and carbs than 'normal' products and also often contain a lot of artificial sweetener that has a laxative effect. I have had people buy the jam for me until I pointed out that you can get lots of little pots of jam for the same price and was more effective because it wasn't being wasted having just enough in a pot for a slice or two of toast.

Boots are calling them no added sugar products and stocking near Pharmacy counter in my large store!

Slightly confused as I was diagnosed as type one late February this year (2017) and after crying when an ice cream van drove past (I was a little tired and emotional and coming to terms:D) one of the first things my parents bought me was "diabetes friendly" ice cream with "Diabetic Vanilla" printed across the lid...how long have diabetic products been off the shelves for?

Was it 'Frank's Diabetic Vanilla'? I've just checked and it is still being sold as this, but it should not be sold as such, according to the report, any later than December 2016. I'll let Diabetes UK know.

The legislation came in in July 2016:

Boots still have the area in the Pharmacy bit of my large town center store signed Diabetic though the food products are labeled reduced sugar or sugar free.

Every year my step dad and his girlfriend (my mum is still married to him but separated) get me a throntons diabetic gift box. They do it from the goodness of their hearts and I haven't ever been able to tell them not too, as it's pointless! I am so happy I won't get one this Christmas and haven't had to upset them ha! It takes the 3 of us months to eat it because it's like one truffle a day or else the toilet is your friend haha!

Oh and the Easter egg mum gets me every year, I want the wispa gold one or caramac this year!

Thought i'd let you know @Northerner that our Tesco are still selling Diabetic Jam. It is labelled as suitable for diabetics. I don't know if it's still sold at other branches.
