Ah - the flozins prevent re-absorption of glucose in the kidneys, so it is excreted. I never suggested going low carb and still taking such things - but so many HCPs seem to treat symptoms with tablets rather than doing joined up thinking about diet.

What sort of dietary regime are you following as if your blood glucose levels are still high then you may still be having more carbohydrates than all those medications and your body can cope with. What would typical meals be. There is plenty around the forum with links to various menu ideas, you...

    Group 7-day waking average?

...GP phoned me, at a time when I had no phone signal (in my job I’m out and about) however he left me a voicemail, seems there is no alternative to Trulicity for me, but said maybe they can simply up my daily dosage of empagliflozin, so need to book a blood test. Have a great day everyone

...on medication reduction. Insist they must help otherwise you risk hypos because of the gliclizide and possibly Euglycemic DKA with the empagliflozin (as sglt2 medications and low carb are not a good mix and should be advised against. Although this is a low calorie plan by its very nature it’s...

Thank you. I think our concern is how we adjust the meds. He takes several including slow release gliclszide plus Empagliflozin and metformin for the diabetes. Plus Enapril, and allupurinol. So hard to know how to adjust all those. But thank you for the encouragement.

...you can get probiotic capsules from shops like Holland and Barrett. It is also possible to become dehydrated with diarrhoea and the empagliflozin can also cause that if you do not drink enough fluids as it encourages the kidneys to excrete excess glucose via urine. I hope the tests reveal...

    Amazing, but shockingly good :)

So, I cut out the Empagliflozin 4 months ago and, a few days later, attended Desmond's where the dietician suggested I chill out with the diet. Her rational being that since I was concentrating on my HBA1c as oppose to instantaneous BG levels, I could afford to eat chocolate cake and other...

    Hello :)

Thank you for your reply. I have been prescribed Synjardy which I believe is a mix of metformin and empagliflozin. On Christmas Day, I literally fell asleep after every meal and I thought I had made better choices. I queried it as it scared me and was told my carbs were too high. I have managed...

    Advice needed re GP

Thank you, I did not know that high glucose can trigger depression and anxiety. Where would I get ketone test strips? I usually cook from scratch. I had a go at recipes from the keto diet for a couple of months but found it difficult although I do still do things like chaffles. Yoghurt and...

    Advice needed re GP

Yes urinary tract infections are a side effect of the empagliflozin and they are notoriously difficult to treat so It is understandable that he was taken off them which means it a more important to look at reducing carbohydrates in his diet to get those dangerously high blood glucose levels...

Hi, I am looking for advice. My husband has had Type 2 for a number of years. Initially treated with Metformin then Empagliflozin was added which while being effective caused a lot of water infections so was then stopped and he was told to try to manage with Metformin and diet. He has been...
