    Hello from the wet North

Hi and welcome from an ex Lancastrian. There are quite a lot of people here who are diagnosed LADA so will be on similar insulin regime to yourself and I'm sure they will be along to offer some words of wisdom. Although I have heard people say when it comes to insulin 'you need what you need '...

    Hello from the wet North

Hi there Hi there. My name's Rae, I'm from Lancashire and I was diagnosed as T2 diabetic in April 2017 after going from a hba1c of 42 to 82 in under 9 months. This April (2022), I ended up in hospital with a DKA and they now think it is LADA (still getting tested). I'm looking to connect with...

...issue for me, but Fournier's Gangrene definitely has me waking up in cold sweats. The docs gave me this link for washing advice with Empagliflozin, the female version is here. My Pharmacist gives me Dermol 500 as a whole body wash and Hydromol as a genital moisturiser. Both of which I use...

Thanks for the reassurance, I accidentally pushed "post" before I had finished writing. As my edit makes clear, I am still more worried about the possibility of bad fungal infection. Like you. I trust my medical team.

Yes, should be OK on the Metformin with Empagliflozin I think. Gliclazide would be a problem. Perhaps I had a 'first day of use' reaction .... not been a problem since. I trust my Diabetes Nurse to know whats is best.

...the risks are with just Metformin: The insulin and sulphonylureas on their own will cause hypoglycaemia, and, according to Wikipedia Empagliflozin does increases the risk of this. However it does not appear to increase the risk of hypoglycaemia. when combined with Metformin Fact checking...

    New tablets .

I am on Empagliflozin, and haven't experienced any problems. Like all the *flozins, if I feel tired dizzy, or generally unwell I have been warned to stop taking it and contact the Doc. I was also warned to drink copious amounts of water, both by the Doc and other members who are taking...

    Ozempic

...may help, but also if you’re able to reduce your portion sizes whilst on your current medications you may see benefits in weight loss without needing ozempic. It would be unusual to go from gliclazide to ozempic, have you tried anything like empagliflozin which would usually be offered first?

    Metformin and constipation?

Fair point about the worry of becoming obsessive. Diabetes has a tendency to make everyone with it lean that way, but it is that much harder when you’re wired that way. Maybe some general guidance would be to start adding more seeds to your food if you aren’t getting enough fibre. I have little...

    Newbie. hello.

Welcome to the forum. It does sound tricky to balance your intolerance to things that most people rely on to bulk out meals which are based on meat, fish, eggs. cheese, with only small portions of high carb foods. Are you able to tolerate vegetables in the form of soups as they could make low...

    Struggling

...they are widely recommended. I had a long discussion with my Doctor about them when she suggested I try a Sulfonylurea instead of Empagliflozin, (I think it was Glimepiride?) I wasn't really that impressed with the idea of the Hypoglycemia associated with Sulfonylureas to begin with and...

    Metformin and constipation?

...I first noticed the problems when I started the Metformin, (along with the new diet). This was about two weeks before I started the Empagliflozin @Mrs Mimoo, Yeah, this is why I am concerned. I am eating a lot more than 250g of broccoli and/or fresh veg with a similar fibre content...

    Metformin and constipation?

...not eating enough fibre. You could try working out how much fibre you’re eating in a day using a nutritional app ( eg myfitnesspal or nutracheck) it should be at least 30g. Could also make sure you’re drinking enough water, since you’re on empagliflozin this needs to be more than 2L per fay

I don't think he is on medication that causes hypos. He takes metformin twice a day and Empagliflozin once a day.

    Not hungry

...to hijack your thread, just joining the conversation: For just over a month now, I have been on Metformin (3*500 mg/day) along with Empagliflozin (1*25mg/day) and a serious cutting back of carbs. (Today was my first day without my small potato or any other high carb foodstuffs.) Probably...

How many grams of sugar a day?

A month ago my Doc gave me an initial target of 250 grams per day, I am, now, usually coming in under that and have dropped 3kg or 6,6 lbs in the last month. However the Empagliflozin may be helping a bit.
