Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello,

I've been reading the forums for a while but haven't posted. Thought I'd introduce myself. As the title says, I've had type one for a very long time. In fact, I was diagnosed 50 years ago this Wednesday. I've been on a pump since 1988 and on the Libre since February. Control is ok though the Libre is helping a lot. I've got some neuropathy but otherwise I'm doing fine. Apart from that (is there really life apart from type one????) I work in IT, am addicted to music and enjoy good books and movies. I'm hear to meet folk. Oh, I'm an American but I've lived in the UK for 23 years now. Not quite sure what that makes me. 🙂

I know what it makes you, very welcome! The forum thrives on sharing the experience of its members and the longer you have had diabetes the more you have to share. Look forward to seeing your contributions.

Welcome from me too.
I'm a proper Newbie by comparison with just a year and a half under my belt so hope to learn plenty from your experience, if you are happy to share.
What type of music/movies do you like?

Always happy to share! I still have lots to learn as well So looking forward to hearing about your experience as well. And there are two kinds of music - the good kind and the bad kind. I like the first one. Some of my faves are Beatles, Stones, John Lee Hooker, Dylan, REM, ‘Trane, Miles, Frank Turner, Will Varley, Jancek, and Beethoven. Ask me tomorrow and you’ll get a different answer. Movies include historical, documentaries, classics and foreign. Casablanca, High Fidelity, The Third Man, Seventh Seal, LotR.. What about you?

I'm a total wuss when it comes to movies. I struggle with stress in general life so anything with suspense or tension gets me unbearably uptight and I can't watch. I also cannot see any enjoyment in watching horror. That kind of leaves rom coms, musicals, comedy and Disney although I'm not a big Disney fan.
Music wise I'm fortunate to be a child of the 60's, 70s and 80's which is when great pop music happened. Concerts wise I was lucky to see Queen in concert at St James' Park Newcastle in the 80s. Nothing can beat that! However I have also seen Bryan Adams several times and Phil Collins who were both exceptional and Elton John and Simply Red who were also really good and Lionel Richie and Ed Sheeran both of whom I can recommend. Oh and 10cc are excellent! And really enjoyed Alison Moyet in concert too..... Gosh didn't realise I have seen so many artists live... thanks for prompting me to reminisce.

Great to have so much experience on here, and congratulation on your 50 years of T1.

Ah, concerts! Best concert I’ve been to was R.E.M. (before they were big) with 10,000 Maniacs opening. I’ve seen Sir Elton and Bryan Adams. Ed Sheeran is great - I’d love to hear him live. I’m glad I also got to see Nirvana and John Denver. Richard Thompson always puts on a great show. It‘s fun remembering past gigs!
