Hi, I’m Alicat I’ve had type 1 diabetes for 47 years. I’ve seen many changes in the treatment of diabetes. I have an insulin pump that I call my portable pancreas
ThanksWelcome to the forum Alicat.
I have the t slim x2, how about you? I love mine tooWelcome to the forum! What pump do you have? I love mine!
Hi, thanksHello Alicat welcome to the forum.
Yeah I remember that, putting a fizzy tablet in a test tube with your wee what a waste of time. I had glass syringes and enormous thick needles it was awful. The pen was revolutionary, but when I got a pump and Libre sensor it was a game changer.12 months longer than yourself, but there again I was and still am old enough to be your mother! (You clearly have a really sensible one of those, so well done her to begin with, can't imagine how I'd have coped had my feet been in her shoes. Bad enough me coping with me.)
By 'eck luv - we've seen a good many changes, haven't we? (though I don't suppose you'll remember boiling up wee in a test tube since your mum would have had that job!)![]()
There are so many advances in the treatment of type 1 diabetes it’s amazing, I personally feel I have more help, education and loads more tech then 10 years agoHello, welcome along from me too.
We all viewed that kit as the latest tech at the time though didn’t we? Libre was a game changer for me too...can’t imagine what I’d have thought if someone had mentioned this to me way back then...but then I wonder how we’ll look back on the current tech in 20 years from now, maybe in only 10 🙂
Lucky you getting an appointment good luck there’s some great kit out there, loads of fantastic advances in the techAfter using pens for - blimey - how long? - and getting my first pump and filling the reservoir for it from a 10ml vial of Novorapid for the first time, so having to flick the reservoir to eliminate air bubbles took me instantly back to 1972 and how much it hurt my nails having to do that with a ruddy hard glass syringe - which is precisely why when my first pump ended its' allocated lifespan I opted for an Insight pump which takes half sized Novorapid cartridges and nowt else.
I got round the flicking by using something more solid than me - ISTR husband had a metal ballpoint pen at the time which did the job a treat.
Tomorrow at my D clinic appointment (in person, whey hey!) I sincerely hope to discuss what pump I'm going to have next, being as the Timer on mine says it's going to expire in 30 days time ....
