Having one of those days

I will have to on Monday, I can’t keep on like this. Because I’m not sleeping.

And it happened again last night. Seems to happen regardless of what I do, unless I take corrections if novorapid at the same time, which shouldn’t be needed

I really could cry. Not sure why it keeps happening 5BD45E6D-7B29-41F6-8986-F824EB76074F.png

I'm having a similar problem but to a lesser extent and I've had to up my daytime and evening Levemir. I am putting mine down to having to start using my steroid inhaler as I have been unusually chesty recently. I have seasonal asthma and I am usually fine from Feb to Sept but having to start things early this year. After a week of absolutely brilliant Libre results, I am now having to feed in corrections every 2-3 hours on an afternoon and upped my basal by a third at night and still going over 10 before I start to descend.

I’ve got an appointment with the diabetes nurse tomorrow because I don’t know what to do.
I’ve not got my full period but I’m spotting, it always goes a bit wonky before my period, but nothing like this.
It’s the worse week I have had with my diabetes in years, probably 10 years ago 🙄

Hi @PhoebeC sorry you’re having an irritatingly high time. Just stating the obvious maybe have you checked your libre reading with blood - finger prick? I had a sensor a while ago that seemed to imply I was high - which I was but not as high as the a sensor was claiming.
Also is your insulin all ok ? Maybe compromised in some way ?

Hope you get sorted soon. It annoying when it happens and you can’t workout why. Take care

My Libre is right, I’ve used both, also i have the symptoms of being high.
I changed both insulin’s the first day it happened. Even different boxes so it was definitely different batches.
Seems if I have two units of Novo with my Lantus I stay at reasonable levels, it does rise at but in range.
Could it be stress? I feel stressed out, I don’t know I’d it’s work or my diabetes

Stress can definitely impact on levels.
However telling yourself that and thinking I must not get stressed just doesn’t work.

You need what you need with regard to insulin. If you are adjusting your own doses, just adapt to what your body is telling you. Whether that is due to physical illness or stress.
I can’t remember whether you have a half unit pen, but if not it would be worth getting one.
This would give you the chance to make finer adjustments.

This is when a pump comes into its own as you can adjust by increments of 0.1 units, and just tell the pump to get on with doing other increases.

I hoe that you have a better day today.

I’ve increased all my novorapid by 2 units.

and I have been taking some1 units for corrections.
Spoke to a nurse, who will speak to the diabetes nurse (I throughly she was as that’s what I asked for) and she asked for me to email over my Libre details.
They are calling me back this afternoon.
I am stressed with work, I hope it’s not that causing it 😳

I hope that they can shed some light on things Phoebe.

If it is any consolation, my spell of high readings has come to an end after 4 days of increased doses and corrections and I am now steadily adjusting my basal doses back down. Hope your control improves soon too.

It it's a management problem, they've no right to stress you since diabetes should be covered by the 2010 Equality Act. Maybe management need reminding? My husband was subjected to a lot of stress over working from home (many functions not working to enable him to complete his tasks), and his blood sugars went up and he took ill, and is now on medication for Type 2. Take good care of yourself as you're what's important.

Thank you all! I basically followe everything you suggested and it’s better than it has been, it’s still raising to about 12 at 1am and then slowly dropping, went to bed at 4.9 (scary) and then woke 7.4, but like I said that peak in the night! Nurse suggested upping the Lantus by 2-4 upto me, and seeing how I get on x

Well remember (you and the nurse!) that any increase or other change in Lantus dosage takes about 3 full days to show its full effect.

What is 2-4u as a percentage of your TDD of Lantus?

I forgot to increase it ha!
Yes, she said that. And I knew it too.
I take 20 units currently

I'd try 2u - I always found that changing basal by a max of 10% at a time, actually got me far further far quicker than more.

It doesn’t seem to have helped the overnight issue. I had some many hypos yesterday but then it’s rising overnight again. Lame.

Sorry you are still having problems at the moment @PhoebeC

It seems that there are quite a few of us being visited by that pesky Diabetes Fairy at present.
Last night was the first night I managed to stay below 10 for ages and that is only because I am back to running at 130%. Still no idea why.

Did you discuss with your DSN about changing your basal insulin. With Levemir changes take effect more quickly, and you can split it to a daytime and night time dose, each of which can be changed without impacting the other (too much).
