Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello, my name is Edward, I am 93 years old and have been a type 1 diabetic for over 60 years;
over many years, I have experienced heavy sweating at night and when asked the diabetic consultant at the hospital, I was been told that was due to low blood sugar level. Recently, I have been told that this is no longer related to diabetes; does any one experience the same thing ? I would be grateful to hear.
Edward

I would have thought first a hypo but you would only be sure if you tested to see.

Congrats on over 60 years. You will have seen so much change in that time.

With night sweats I too would suspect a hypo, but as Grovesy says
the only way you could know is to test.

I do check my blood sugar level during the night for hypo; but even though the sugar level is high, I still experience sweating.

For me heavy night sweats indicates hyper rather than hypo.

Night sweats usually mean a hypo for me.

However, I think they can also be a symptom of other non-diabetes related things, so might be a very good idea to have a telephone appointment with your GP?

I agree. If you’ve checked your blood glucose levels at the time, and you aren’t in hypoglycaemia, it sounds like you may have to look elsewhere for the cause.

Congratulations on 60 years with T1! And welcome to the forum @Edward Huber

Did you get a 60 year medal for your amazing achievement?

Hallo, Thank you all for helpful reply's,please excuse long time in my reply but the diabetic nurse at the local hospital advises much the same. It is not the case for me

Hi @Edward Huber and welcome. I would be inclined to give my GP a ring. If you are not having a hypo it could be other reasons such as a medication that you are on or a medical cause which you should rule out. I know when my husband had a problem with his blood he had terrible night sweats but he was really poorly with it but it is obviously concerning and bothering you so please give your GP a call for a chat. Nice to see you on the forum and well done on your 60 years xx

So - what have you been told your sweating relates to?

Hope they find out soon enough then, Edward.
