MODY
Hi
I have Mody and also coeliac disease and an underactive thyroid. Since the lockdown I have been, what would be classed as shielding, even though i havent been told to. Nobody in my family has gone out at all and deliveries have been disinfected.
I have been doing the covid 19 survey for all this time.
Last weekend i had chills and a sore throat and felt tired. I added this on the survey. On Tuesday I couldnt stop coughing for half a day.
The covid 19 survey asked me to take a government home test in a volunteer capacity to help with their reseach. I did this on Friday and received the results today. I tested positive.
I am feeling a bit shocked to be honest. I have been so careful. Does anyone know the prevalence of false positives?
I am also a bit scared especially after all the talk about diabetics being high risk. Anybody got any positive stories?
Thank you and sorry for being longwinded!

It sounds as if you are a positive story as from what you are saying you are getting better 🙂

Thank you that is one way of looking at it. I am a pessimist when it come to my health but an optimist with other peoples health.
I just cant see how I couldve caught it! My husband has been for a test this afternoon so I will see what happens there.

Well, by the sound of it, you caught some bug or other. So something must have sneaked in with the groceries, so why shouldn’t it be covid? It sounds as if you’ve had a mild dose, like the majority of people. Just because we have health conditions doesn’t mean to say we will get it badly.

I suppose I have just been taken in by all the gloom and doom that is around at the moment!
I was feeling quite well till i got the result and now I have headache, sore throat and am going around with an oximeter on my finger and thermometer in my mouth!!! No health anxiety here at all!!
Thank you

As far as I know they're rare. Much more likely (I write as an amateur) is that you have a (so far, at least) mild case.

As far as I understand it false negatives (where you're infected but get a negative test result) are much more common (around 30%). (Which is partly why the daily "number of tests performed" is much larger than the "number of people tested".)

I hope you continue to a full recovery but probably like you I’m wondering how you got it. That is scary. Possibly a silly question but do you or your family open the door when delivery people are there or do you ask them to leave the deliveries and stand two metres away? Do you quarantine the post etc for 72 hours before touching it or have takeaways?

Hello.
I never have takeaways and i open the post ans then spray with dettol spray the letter and then leave alone .. I have a pile of them!..I never open the door to anyone. I have a note asking delivery drivers to just leave the parcel and i wave out the window to acknowledge them. I leave the package for at least 10 mins to hope any particles in the air have disappeared. I am so strict and paranoid thats why I think false positive!

However you got it, I am glad that it seems to be a mild case.
I hope to continue to feel better.

I read the updated Coronavirus info from DUK, as well as the Behind the Headlines bit which addressed the most recent news reports regarding Diabetes and Covid.
I found it very informative and dispelled many of my worries. I am back to the view that most people get a mild form, and you may well add to the data for that.

I hope it is a false positive.
So do I because I dont know what more I could have done.
It is awkward though as until there is an antibody test available for me I wont know for sure and will be down as having had it. I work with diabetic patients but our service is paused for the time being. I will carry on taking all precautions as if i hadnt tested positive of course for myself and for others.
Thank you

That is really weird. As you say, you've done everything anybody could. I wonder what could have happened?

(The idea of a false positive seems possible, but I still think it's unlikely since they're unusual. Especially since you have what sound like symptoms.)

As you had symptoms and have had a positive test I would just presume you’ve had/got it and keep an eye out for any further symptoms. Hopefully it will remain a mild case for you and you’ll just be left with the conundrum of how you got it.

If my husbands test come back negative I will tend to think false positive but continue on the same way.
