Hi new on just found out I got diabetes
think just had my first sugar low attack and my eyes were feeling like looking in the water BG 6.0
from 7.9? is that correct and what the quick correction in future I had choc and coke and back to BG 7,2

i wouldn't have treated that as you aren't low until 4 or less, might've had cheese but certainly not coke
xx

For me - between 5 and 6 is normal.

Welcome to the forum @DONALD66

If your levels have been a high for a while it is quite common to feel low even though they are actually normal. It is just that your body has got used to high levels, and now that you have bought your levels down your body is complaining. If you have tested and are still above four I would not treat it. It is just a false hypo. Eating chocolate and drinking coke will shoot levels up.

I was on a diabetes course years ago. A bloke who regularly ran his blood sugars high felt low at 9.0. Nurse explained if your used to being say 14.0 and above 9.0 would make you feel low.

I get subtle pre hypo signs at 5.5. Always have. Like SB2015 and Hepato-Pancreato said, it's well known that if blood sugar levels have been running high for some time, even at what are considered normal levels, can produce hypo symptoms. I used to work with a guy who just wouldn't try to improve his control as he said he feels awful if he goes below 10.

Welcome to the forum @DONALD66

Sounds very unpleasant for you - hope you didn’t find it too alarming. But as others have said, it seems more like it was your body’s ’glucose thermostat’ which has reset a little higher, and which triggered hypo warning signs when your BG was dropping rapidly, but was still at a non-hypo level.

Having a snack can certainly help reduce the symptoms, and while your 7.2 was a great outcome, it might be better to choose something lower in carbs if it happens again.

As your BG returns more towards the normal range your internal ‘glucose thermostat’ should reset 🙂
