So it looks like the restrictions on movement are set to continue until June (providing the Government’s 5 conditions are met.

Hope everyone is coping OK, and feels able to dig in for the foreseeable future.

I‘m really starting to miss mixing and mingling with people - far more than I expected to. If I had the opportunity, I’d quite possibly be looking for reasons not to go... but when you don’t have a choice and are prevented from doing something, sometimes it makes you want it all the more! 🙄

thing is I know lots of people who will not continue with a lockdown, people will get bored and just will mingle in groups & that will continue the spread. I know its hard but doing this will make things run smoothly soon we hope.

The change in weather may have an impact as well if people don’t have things to occupy themselves. I spoke to a neighbour and their daughter of 14 is very much missing being with her friends. She is desperate to go back to school. That might not have been a common cry before all this.

I am now looking forward to getting some weaving and sewing done now that gardening is not an option. Just lots of runners out braving the weather. I might cycle and just accept I will get soaked.

Hopefully when/if this is ended the government scraps the children's school holidays so they can catch up.
Interestingly though when chatting to people yesterday the general feeling was the longer the lock down/restrictions go on the better chance of winning the battle. Also locally here people are saying this is normal for us anyway as being a rural area we basically only see people if we want to.

The ones I feel so sorry for are the people in flats who have no gardens :(

Admittedly, for us, being retired, life under lockdown, is not too different to normal, except we’d be out walking the dogs for longer and would be having more choice of places to go, like the beach, which I am missing. I love being by the seaside. Closest beach is Exmouth, but it’s a car journey of about 20 mins. Other than this, we’d be at home in the afternoons. Trouble is, when you have a choice you can be ambivalent, but with lockdown, you want to do it. Lol. That said, I’d rather carry on with lockdown, if it helps others who are more at risk. No question.

I don’t think there’s going to be much backlash against further lockdown. I’m sure most folk will comply, because if they don’t they now know it could all go tits up. Most people will comply.

Mind, the unintended consequences will continue apace, like the dramatic increase in domestic violence.

Like some others on the forum, the lockdown hasn’t dramatically changed my lifestyle that much. I am doing lots more reading, and also hammering Microsoft Jigsaw at Grandmaster level. And spending lots of time on the balcony accumulating Vit D. You don’t need a beach or a garden for that.🙂

ha ha @everydayupsanddowns I am starting to talk to the birds in the garden :D

I beat the hell out of my metal tongued drum past night along with the clapping for NHS - some things are fun :D

The kids are getting a bit fed up and I’m really missing my friends too. The nice weather has made it less depressing to be at home but it does mean my neighbours are out in the garden all the time (they’re lovely but loud) and we live in a terrace so there’s not much escaping. I’m worried about my mum as she’s now in isolation in her care home but it’s for people like her and the staff caring for her that we’re willing to live with a bit of boredom and discomfort if it slows the spread.

800+ deaths 5000+ new cases in last 24 hours, not going away anytime soon so expect lockdown will continue into June. Is what it is so no point in complaining, just think of unfortunate souls who have perished.

Never been as busy round home, jobs on hold are now done, garden looks good but garage is filling up with bags of everything, see car doing few trips to tip when back open.

Were we even 5 or 10 years younger the jobs that need doing still haven't been done, cos OH isn't able to do them now and they haven't been done before because it's not fair to expect adult children with F/T jobs, homes and families of their own and plenty of gardening decorating and maintenance they have too, to come here. Yes OH did it for his own oldies and many many jobs for both girls and grandkids in the past - now he can't even go to anywhere to assess and supervise or make drinks for the workers - let alone fix it.

I freely admit that this morning we took receipt of essential food for vulnerable elderly folk, all the way from Rugby which needed two people in a car to deliver, but there again it's not a normal day for me either. Blame my deceased parents and their post War holiday in Kinmel Bay for that ….

The only problem with this scenario is that teachers are still currently working full time, either in the building or from home. They still have huge expectations put upon them and have to provide education and more for children currently. Taking away the holidays is going to cause mass burn out in the profession and completely demoralise the working force. I’m lucky to be on maternity leave now but working from home for the last few weeks was every bit as draining as teaching full time in the school itself.

I’ve got to say that the April weather has helped us to get through the ordeal, unless of course you are silly enough to stray further afield than you should, endangering your and other people’s lives. Stay safe and enjoy the dry sunny weather.

whether we like it or not this country cannot run on an indefinite lock down. The NHS milks money and in the end there are only so many coffers available.

seems we now have differing MP's and a country run where scientists and doctors are trying to dictate the show.

if they are waiting for a second wave then how long is a piece of string, and we can't wait a year or so for some vaccine to appear which might not even work.

in the end we don't want to see a USA situation with people taking to the streets to mass protests.

BOE how long can they keep printing money! any way send some here 🙄

a lass in out local shop sort of summed things up by saying she 'couldn't see any end to this' very worrying statement and that is along my lines too.

perhaps the only way out is herd immunity.

Sorry to hear you sounding a bit down Mikey. I think this was bound to be a tricky bit - waiting for the curve to flatten enough and then working out the best ways to phase a return to a more ‘mixed’ and interacting world.

Which is part of what's so stupid about the current policy of not talking about how this might end. We seem to have politicians who believe the public are simpletons, incapable of thinking about the future while accepting that for the moment we're stuck inside.

I suspect that they don't really know & are waiting for somebody to tell them what can be done.

The whole lock-down thing seems like a pretty weak way of getting good control. Italy for all of its efforts seems to be at R about 0.8, and who knows that the UK's R really is at the moment, given the lack of testing.

Loosening things from an R = 0.8 position seems really risky if you don't have other measures in place. As all the public health experts seem to recommend, the best thing to do is put in massive testing/contact tracing/isolation resources. But if you're starting from a position of huge community spread, the resources needed for effective contact tracing seem to be truly massive & you're not going to solve that with a mobile phone app ...

Dunno - and that really is my considered opinion.

It's certainly true that whatever is or isn't done it can't please everyone.
