Most Type 2 are not given monitors unless they are on Insulin or Tablets that can cause hypo's(low blood sugars).
Even those of us who were prescribed tests strips are having them withdrawn form their repeat. I received the letter yesterday informing me mine had been withdrawn. I was not total surprised as it has been hinted at a couple of times. I was on tablets that could cause hypos and have not been on them for a few years.
Hello @Muvf99
Although it is expensive, many of us find that it is worth while to buy our own monitors, so that we can see the effects of tablets and changes in lifestyle, particularly how what we eat effects blood sugars.
ISD Gluco Navii is one of the cheaper monitors.
If you do get one, then some useful information on how to do the monitoring is given on test-review-adjust
I also take metformin, and it does help to keep my blood sugars down, but what effects it more is what I eat.
Do you follow any particular eating plan? I have found that a low carb diet is the best solution, and increasing my level of exercise has helped as well.
If you would like to know more about this then please let us know and we will give you some more information.
Hi @Mucf99 welcome to the forum. Your dr will keep an eye on whether they’re doing their job with your HbA1c test. That said, if you’re not due one for a while but feel you’re getting symptoms of high levels it might be helpful to discuss with your doctor before your routine appointment to see if they want to make any changes/check HbA1c sooner.
Hi to everyone, my name is Adam and a newbie here.
Have browsed the forums quite a few times in search of answers to questions but thought I would actually register this time and I'm glad to be here.
I'm 50 in a month..ish and was diagnosed type1 on my 45th birthday whilst an inpatient with pancreatitis so pretty much self inflicted but ironically from that day I never touched another drop of alcohol so one good thing came out of it at least.
I do have a couple of questions I still need to find the answers to but will look again at previous threads to try to find the answers and if not I hope you don't mind me drawing on your vast wealth of knowledge.
P.s sorry if I have put this in the wrong place.
