Relationship to Diabetes

My husband has recently been diagnosed with diabetes , they still arnt sure if it’s type 1 or type 2 , he’s on 2 metformin 500mg twice a day & also high colestorol ..

He’s only been diagnosed 3 weeks , but his eyesight is really blurry and he can’t read text messages or emails ? Has anybody experienced this

Yep, this is extremely common. In some ways it could actually be good news because it indicates (well it did for me) that his bg levels are coming down.

It will improve over time, so don't go out and get any new glasses!

thanks for the reply , he was put on metformin 2 a day and then increased to 4 a day as the blood sugar levels wudnt go down , since then his eyesight has got worse

Yes, blurry vision is a common side-effect of elevated BG levels. The high BG changes the osmotic pressure in the eye and distorts the lens. People are often advised not to get glasses around the time of diagnosis until their BG has come back into range.

What advice has he been given so far? its very unfortunate timing with the difficulty of the virus making healthcare appointments so tricky...

Folks here would suggest reducing or moderating carbohydrate intake would be a sensible precaution while he is waiting to be seen.
 
He hasn’t had much info to be honest , obv with what’s goin on with the virus , it’s hard to get through to doctors , his carbs have been well reduced , he’s been taking loads of fruit and fish , walking & running to keep his levels down
 
Before I was diagnosed type 1 blurry vision was one of the main symptoms I noticed. It was pretty scary how quickly it was deteriorating - it was actually a bit of a relief when I got the extreme thirst and worked out it must be diabetes, since I was worried I was going blind of something.

Once I was on insulin it cleared up just as quickly as it came on, my eyesight was back to normal within a few days if I recall. Which isn't much help when it comes to your husband's situation, but at least I can say that it's normal and not irreversible.

Blimey that was quick - it took mine a month and I was as bored as a colander until I could see well enough again to go back to work.

may be he should reduce his fruit a bit if he is eating a lot of fruit , does contain carbs.
 
I'm very blurry at the minute because I'm being totally stupid. :( Horrible.
 
Welcome to the forum @Ejbecks Like TW it took me over a month to regain proper blurry less eyesight, I`m sure he will be ok soon.
