ive purchased a blood glucose monitor ive stabbed every finger on my left hand and used numerous strips the meter gives blood droplet sign but wont register a reading any ideas welcome please?

Hi. What meter are you using and what does the meter say after applying blood ie error codes etc

Hi
There are a couple of things which might be causing this problem....
Are you holding the strip to the drop of blood until it gives you the countdown. Just touching the strip to the blood and then removing it can mean that it doesn't get a chance to draw up enough blood.
The other thing which can occur if you are new to using a meter and not fully up to speed with using it, is that you don't get the blood into the test strip in time..... there is a period of about 2 mins when the meter and strip are active and then it times you out.

There are you tube tutorials which can be helpful to watch which may highlight what you are doing wrong.

hi ty you for replying yep im doing it in plenty of time, trouble is ive only been diagnosed less than month and with coronavirus, nurses etc busy with other things, and I don't know if my ms affects it.

Different meters have slightly different ways of applying the blood, and different amounts of blood needed. For some meters, it takes a few goes to get success first time.

What meter are you using?

Ok - that’s not a meter I’ve used, so my advice is general. Check the instructions again to make sure you’re applying the blood in the correct way. Some strips need it on the end, some on the side. Some advise you bring your finger to the strip, others that you bring the strip/meter to your finger.

Make sure you’re not applying the blood too early. Ensure you hold your finger to the strip long enough. The strip needs to draw up enough blood. The meter should tell you when it has enough blood. Some beep, some start a countdown, some have a ‘test in progress’ icon like an egg-timer.

Then make sure you’re allowing the meter time to produce the test result. Some meters are really quick, some less so.

Does your MS mean it is difficult to hold the meter steady whilst you apply the finger tip with the drop of blood to the strip end. Can you see the blood being sucked up into the strip?

Also, make sure you’re putting the strip in the right way round.

I found this video. Is this your meter? I hope it helps you:

I agree, despite being an experienced user, some meters are more temperamental than others at getting a reading. I have not heard of the meter you are using . Someone had posted a YouTube video, hope it helps.

ty everyone for all your kind help ive followed the video to the letter still no joy im returning the damn thing lol,but nice to know what great support there is here

Sorry you had no success @desktop57

I get my blood meters free because I have Type 1, but I know many Type 2s have meters that work out as good value and are accurate (and easy to use!)

Hopefully you’ll get some suggestions from people if you want to try a different meter. If you’re paying, the important thing is the price of the test strips.

Im really sorry you’ve had a bad experience with that meter @desktop57 - but don’t let that put you off self-monitoring completely!

Over the years I’ve used several different types and brands, I've also been offered a few to try out for my blog, and I can certainly say that some strips and meters are far ‘slurpier‘ than others. Some really do have a knack, and seem very picky about exactly where the droplet is and the angle of strip, while others will slurp up the blood from halfway across a room :D

Many members here chose the SD Gluco Navii, because it offers good accuracy and has very affordable strips. There are links in the ‘useful links’ thread in the newbie section if you are interested.
