Hi guys, I'm self employed but have been strongly advised not to have social contact and stay in doors as I'm type 1. Are self employed intitled to anything? Does SSP only apply to inployed only? Its not clear at all. Can anyone advise? Peter
They will now be entitled to the same sick pay as an employee I believeThey did not seem to mention Self Employed at tonights news conference. There maybe more when they publish, like they have done with everything else.
Sorry to hear this what line of work are you in?I am now not working and have zero income. I am signing on. SSP apparently possible for 2 weeks if self isolating or if you are ill. Tonight they have said they are removing the earning floor on universal credit. So self employed can sign on too. It is appalling that they have helped every sector except mine. I am disgusted as if I was worried enough for my family over coronavirus I now have to worry about what pennies I have and how I should make them stretch for the next 5 months! Hopping mad and VERY, very angry! Paid taxes for my entire working life!
Hi, many thanks. I'll look into ESA.
If you follow the link and scroll down to "working and coronavirus" it states to work from home but if I start a job this Monday (which will also be face to face) do I then ask them to send me home? It will also be a driving job, so I'm guessing the answer will be no.... And obviously SSP of £93pw is impossible to live of so I need to work.
Peter
I really feel your pain. We're self-employed, not I'll put and employ ourselves. Our industry had been closed down and we can get £93pw SSP but employed people can get 80% of salary. 5 million people are self employed. DOES NOT MAKE SENSE,. plus we're diabetic and apparently "high risk" so we can't work face to face.Sorry to hear this what line of work are you in?
I am an owner driver hgv crane truck and cannot afford to not work I am mostly working on my own and not in close contact with anyone but my wife and son are saying I should stop working because I'm type 2 ?
These days with thoose called self employed, not all are truly self employed.I was self employed. I knew that if, for any reason, I could not work I would have no income. I regularly put aside money to tide me over. Being self employed I received all the self employed benefits, which were quite considerable, and paid my taxes and NI contributions. I do sympathise with self employed now but if you had looked Into all these things, gave your business bank manager a working plan, you could easily ride out this storm. Too many people become self employed without taking in the big picture. I sympathise for you but don’t dispare Im sure a package of help will be forthcoming.
