As a distraction from all the coronavirus whirlwind I just found myself pondering things that would make life easier and give us more time and head space to focus on more important matters than managing our pesky BG levels.

If you could instantly magic up a dream device to help you with your diabetes, what would it be?

  • Automatic carb counting camera phone app?
  • Psychic de-stigmatising field generator?
  • Limitless CGM / BG monitor with no costly sensors or strips?
  • Molecular carb neutraliser that removes any BG effect from any food you fancy?
  • Whatever-o-matic to reduce the mental burden of constant BG juggling, especially when things don’t go so well?

What would make your life with diabetes easier? Let your imaginations run wild!

How about a robot that you could program to produce 3 delicious meals a day in line with your carb count and other nutritional/taste requirements? - It would need to do the shopping and washing up as well.

I misread your post at first and until I thought have not heard of these , then reread.

Oh yes please esp the washing up , and if it could be programmed to do the cooking too, I would be in 7th heaven

Great thread.
I rather fancy 2, 3 and 4

A time machine so you can go back and actually see a doctor a few years earlier!

A lockable cage with bars thick enough so the Diabetes Fairy couldn’t escape from it.
Alternatively, a body scanner that would tell you what your metabolism is going to do today, so you can make those fine tuned adjustments.

@Robin - methinks the alleged Mafia solution is the only way to cage the DF. Must be building a bridge somewhere, surely?

I wouldn't mind all/any of them so far. Only thing is small bungalow/struggling for storage as it is, but willing to throw out some of Pete's fishing, er, c**p!

I'd like a scanner that would tell me how much longer I could continue eg walking/house cleaning/gardening at the current rate before I needed to refuel with x amounts of carbs. I imagine some kind of car dashboard energy gauge and miles remaining sort of thing. Along the lines of @Robin scanner showing me that at my current rate of glucose metabolism and insulin onboard I'm safe for another 1 mile distance of walking at x miles per hour or 30 minutes of high intensity vacuuming.

I do love the idea of taking a picture of a meal and instantly getting a readout of 36.3 g of carbs, 8g of protein etc and a bolus of 3 units fast acting insulin.

I'd definitely buy a Whatever-o-matic diabetes mental juggling reducer even without a guarantee, receipt and no returns accepted! 😉🙂

A Star Trek Replicator machine - deliver whatever I want - just ask!!....and a transporter beam to zap out any excess sugar from the blood - send it off into space to colonise a new planet - 😱 Beam me up Scotty!

I like @Eddy Edson time machine - I would use it to scoff all the pie, crisps, OMG tiramisu (my absolute fav i could die with my face in it pud) banoffee pie, ice cream sundae, pasta, mashed potato and white hot buttered toast!.....then use the time machine to go back like i never ate it in the first place!. (rolls eyes) YUM 🙄

I think some of the algorithm stuff that is currently emerging (both commercial and ‘we are not waiting’) is reaching towards this Flower - and those estimates and predictions can only get better. Fingers crossed that won’t be a ‘dream device’ much longer, just hook your insulin pump up with CGM and your Fitbit and away you go (I wish!)

I‘d love that scanner 🙂
