Each week we have a couple of bottles of fizzy drinks in the weekly shopping. This week I noticed sugar free tango was on offer so ordered a couple. We drank bottle one earlier in the week and tonight while drinking bottle 2 with dinner one of the kids pointed out that it wasn’t sugar free! I’m so annoyed with myself for not checking and not even noticing when I was drinking it. Just checked my bg and it’s 7.8 mid way though eating which is the highest numbers I’ve seen in weeks

it is easily done so don’t berate yourself ok . Over the years since my diagnosis I have made many a mistake and quite a few that were not mistakes eg eating things that were most unsuitable.

It’s likely you’ll be peeing for England soon and drinking extra water will help flush the glucose out.

Thanks for the reply. It didn’t quite have the effect I thought it would 2 hours after eating my bg was 5.4. My next HbA1c is due in the next few weeks and it probably will have raised a little from 38 with Christmas so silly mistakes like this aren’t needed, it’s taught me to double check again

We’ve all done it. I ordered barcardi and coke, had about 4 and forgot to say Diet Coke, haven’t forgotten since!! 😉

I think the people who design the packaging really need to bear in mind how important this difference is when deciding what the packs should look like. It is a significant piece of information, with potentially extremely serious implications, but sometimes is given an almost ‘small print’ treatment 🙄

I almost bought sugar free version of Lucozade as a hypo treatment once, because the swirly vertical ‘Zero’ labelling was receding into the background swirly colours. 😱

Would a one off deviation like this actually affect you HbA1c? I would be very surprised if it had any tangible effect at all.

A one off mistake probably wouldn’t but I’ve increased my carbs a bit since August so expect a raise anyway. We will see
