Hello everyone I have been on insulin now for year and half been on x2 Levemir Morning and Night And X3 NovoRapid after coming out of intensive care my dosage as come down over that year and half told done amazing and doing really well.

my bloods come back Tuesday and from today my doctor said i can come off X3 novorapid I have with my 3 meals a day I just done my sugars 2 hours after breakfast they normally 7 and 8 reading today 9.6 is this normal when coming off Novorapid im just little worried by it all and and my doctor not in today to speak to Louise

Hi Louise 🙂

Your profile states you are Type 1, is that definite? I only ask as I don't know any doctor that would tell a Type 1 diabetic that they could come off of insulin so that isn't making much sense at all, we've probably all had honeymoon periods but most of us will have still required some insulin during that period
xx

they wouldn't normally have you on a basal/bolus regime right from the beginning of Type 2, have you had a C-Peptide and GAD tests done? That's the only way to know which Type you actually are so if you haven't had those done then I'd push for them, none of us Type 1's can really offer anything here as none of us have been taken off rapid acting insulin and aren't likely to, if you don't mind me asking, what was your latest hba1c result? I assume that's what you were referring to when you said your bloods had come back, what else did they say in reference to you coming off your rapid acting? xx

Hi hun im told im type 2 thats why taking me off the insulin after year half ?

Could be type 1.5, where the beta cell destruction takes a long time and insulin production can improve before finally packing in.......anyway, if you can possibly come off the insulin thats great, although a spike of 9.6 suggests you still need additional help with meals, whether thats insulin, oral meds or food choice....

being on bolus insulin gives you more flexibility with food choices than no insulin or oral meds......so that might be something you need to acclimatise to....

I agree with @Kaylz and @novorapidboi26, it’s quite unusual to be taken off insulin if you are T1 or LADA, but LADA in particular can be quite hard for HCPs, especially non-specialist ones, to be sure about (even with those extra tests mentioned).

I would suggest speaking to your GP, and asking lots of questions about how you could use Novorapid effectively going forward. It seems like your BG results are really encouraging, otherwise the Dr wouldn’t have recommended you stop the rapid insulin, but perhaps it isn’t an ‘all or nothing’ situation and you might be able to take smaller or just occasional doses as you adjust.

You could say that you don’t want to risk your levels going all out of kilter just when you’ve got them in a good place, but you don’t want to risk lots of hypos either!

Hi everyone im doing fantastic since the big change sugar levels are fab no hypos and now only on 2 needles a day instead of 5 :.)
