I think I know what is going on. I have porridge and a few berries for breakfast and a couple of oatcakes along with the 2 metformin. I sometimes test myself if I have the time and it is 5-5.5 all good
Today in a rush and forgot the tablets and as an experiment decided to test myself and once again it was 5.5. I am assuming my body is used to the low carb diet and all the exercising I do for my muscle tear. While i am quite happy to.keep on with the diet (which is no great hardship).I just wondered what had happened. Any ideas?
 
You tolerate porridge.....mine goes keeeraaazzzzy after porridge, haven't had any in nearly 2 years. I miss it :(
 
I say this vewy, vewy quietly (a la hunting wabbits) ...... Maybe you don't need the metformin anymore?

Alternatively, I think it does take a little time for metformin to completely clear the system. So you may have still been reaping the benefits of the previous day's pills to a certain extent.

How was your testing for other meals during the day?

Anyway, when I stopped taking my metformin, I took a few days and made sure by regular testing that there was no ill-effect. I then went to my GP with a fait-accompli and he agreed that I didn't need to keep taking them. I've been off all medication (even during my recent blip) ever since ... that's over ten years now. 🙂

Bit nervous of telling doc, would rather stay on the Met for a while longer, it has only been 18 months...

I have a porridge sachet. 19 carbs a shot. Breakfast is my highest carb content. Even when I was first diagnoised I kept going with the porridge with water and some berries. I used to test regularly especially the porridge feast, but it was never high. But who knows what tomorrow may bring. My third Hba1c is due in a couple of weeks...
 
Probly metformin is doing sod-all for you now ... it's biggest effect is supposed to be reducing liver insulin resistance; peripheral i.e. muscle insulin resistance secondarily. The first gets reflected mainly in yr waking BG levels, the second post-prandial. If you've fixed your liver insulin resistance via weight loss or whatever, and you've improved yr peripheral IR via exercise, there's not much left for the met to do, as far as BG levels are concerned.

Absolutely! I wouldn't dream of persuading you otherwise. It is crucial that you do things in your own timescale and in a way that you are comfortable with. 🙂
 
I know that conversation will happen at sone point it makes sense. Simply just avoiding it
