From my initial test results of 107 mmol, back in Sept., I now have a result of 56 mmol, I haven't a clue what that actually means, but it had to be good innit?
Currently control it by diet and meds ( Metformin) , which I wish to stop taking, I do excercise, I walk almost daily to the shops, and when weather improves will get out on the bike a lot more, which hopefully kickstart my former enthusiasm for cycling.
I am on my way back, but I know it's a regime of excercise and diet for now on.

That's very good, @Grldtnr, well done! Anything over 48 is classed as diabetic so you've made a terrific start. Do you eat low carb? The starchy carby things like potatoes, pasta, rice, etc, are not good for us but it looks like you've got a handle on that. If you carry on as you've been doing, and add cycling, I would think you have every chance of a lower result next time 🙂.

I was on Metformin for a while, and managed to stop taking it after the surgery saw my good control. I do find it a bit of an effort, tbh, but it's worth it!

That's really good progress in a short time - bravo!

I found this pic useful for getting a handle on things:

Those numbers you quoted are yr "HbA1c" levels, the blue numbers at the top of the pic. At 107 mmol/mol you were way over in the scary red part. At 56 you're now in the much nicer yellowy-green part. The general goal is to get it further down into the green, 48 or lower. So almost there!

HbA1c is used to give an etimate of what your average blood sugar levels have been over the last 2-3 months. It's a pretty good metric, but not exact - really the main thing with HbA1c is how it's changing over time, and for you, obviously, the change is really good.

I imagine yr doc/nurse would probably tell you to keep on doing whatever it is you've been doing, and see where you stand in another 3 months time.

Can't add to what the others have said, just wanted to say well done and keep up the good work! 🙂

Quite good Grldtnr. You've gone a long way towards non-diabetic levels. Excellent 🙂
30? to 41 is "normal"
42 to 47 is called pre diabetic.
48 and above gets you a diagnoses of diabetic. Like you, many on here have an HbA1c around 100 or more when diagnosed.

Just to add my congratulations.
That's a big achievement and I hope that you are feeling better and more energetic as well.

Thanks for all the encouraging replies, I can't say the last 3 months have been easy, I am still getting my head around the change of diet thing, a life time eating a certain way takes a lot of change, but I know I am not alone in this,it's good to have the support from this forum.
The truth is lack of local support is the hardest thing, I live in Southend ,a large urban area, but alas no local support, if had some one relate too things would be easier.
Again many thanks.

Congratulations on your great progress so far @Grldtnr

Keep us posted with how you are getting on 🙂

Well done that’s brilliant!
