How many apply the sensor a day before the current one ends? If you do, do the results become more inaccurate on the last day? I only ask as the last 2 sensors I've applied haven't been the greatest on the first day causing it to be in the "red zone" most of the time and I currently apply and activate about half an hour later so considering applying the day before, any input is greatly appreciated as always 🙂

Hi Kaylz,
I only ever apply a new sensor as the last one finishes. I've never had a problem with accuracy of any sensors. They always pick up from where the old graph left off, an hour earlier. I've timed my sensor to finish at 7pm at the end of the 2 weeks so I can get the new one on running before bed.

Thanks @Amity Island, mine runs out about 9:30am and I'll apply the new one about 9am when I'm dried off from my shower (sorry TMI) and although the first prick this newest one was only 0.4mmol out it started being far lower the next day, I've attached a pic of how wrong it went and its still runner different to usual at times, its not like I'm dehydrated or anything as I drink at least 6 pints of water a day and have other liquids too xxScreenshot_20200106-184342_LibreLink.jpg
I see my consultant on the 21st and I can just see his face now when he looks at my Libreview before getting the right story from me lol xx

Since Abbott did the update, I start mine soon after applying, and they’ve seemed fine so far. I whacked a new one on on Monday and started it up straight way, after I'd fallen off my horse the day before, and my levels were horrendous, but you can see the gap between sensors, and the new one just carries on with much the same pattern.

@Robin yes mine did that Thursday when I started it but as I say it just started reading far lower late that evening, its just p'ing me off as I'm in the process of a basal dose change and I cant see what's really happening xx

Hi All.

I apply and then leave it about 10-15 minutes then activate. I haven’t done the day before to be honest. I may try next time just to see.

Is it maybe the sensor? I had 2 slightly nutty ones over Christmas and one back in October that looked a bit like that. I guess if there’s a faulty one it’d possibly apply to all in the batch.

I don't think its a batch issue as I'm sure the last one had the same batch number and it was pretty good xx

Kaylz,
It certainly looks to be reading properly in terms of a good range and continuity, but the lows are very low, from what you are saying, I assume you think the entire graph should move up 1mmol at least? This would bring it all into range. If I had a spare libre reader and sensor i'd apply that at the same time (on other arm) to see how they both compare, if the sensor is faulty then keep the new one on and get a replacement for the faulty one.

Maybe a slightly kincked filament? Or maybe strained a little with position and glue pulling it a little.

I know when I speak to dr / nurse at hospital they’re aware of the anomalies with sensors so try not to worry too much what consultant says. Also when you see a print out of the graphs they don’t look as dramatic so to speak.

I have only applied my last 2 the night before as the have been due to expire about 7am.

I usually apply the night before. Sensor that finished this morning was pretty much spot on throughout.

When my old one is due to run out, it’s timed to coincide with morning shower. I take it off, have the shower and apply the new one. It picks up where the old one left off. There doesn’t seem to be any advantage in applying it the day before.

One point I would make, Kaylz, is that if you are drinking 6 pints of water a day, plus food and other liquids, you are, if anything, overhydrated, so who knows what that effect has on your readings.

I only have applied the last two the night before as they were due to be replaced early the following day.

I tend to stick them on 24 hours before the one that is currently active expires.

Does it make it more accurate?

No because nothing is accurate, it makes it less erratic but the last 3 have failed at day 12 so have ended up just warming up for an hour.

I still apply the new one 24 hr before I need it, but I have not tried anything different since the update, as it doesn’t bother me diong this. I shall no doubt forget sometime in the future and will then see if it matters.

Hi @Kaylz.🙂 I attach the new sensor 24 hours before the old one expires (cos in the distant past when I didn’t do this my sensors gave crazy-high readings and were pretty useless tbh). A couple of sensors ago I decided to try attaching and activating immediately and...wow...the sensor was fine.

As for your other question, on their last day my sensors usually give erratic readings. They’re probably tired out, poor dabs!😛

I'm pretty awful, I drink water when I'm bored, when I'm hot but its something I've gotten into, I've contacted them regarding whether they have any information on the issue of over hydration though xx

I think I'll try my new sensor of applying the day before, may not be exactly 24 hours but will try and get it close to lol xx
