Happy new year all, I'll try not to rant

I developed an open sore on my leg just before Christmas, which looked infected, manage get antibiotics via Walk in centre and then AEC Al day job.

Think I may be starting to get skin spots, and scratch one which lead to the infection.

Anyone else have similar is it just a case moisturizer on legs from now on, getting paranoid of any small itch I get now.

Whenever I had spots and difficult to control infections, it was because of high blood glucose levels. What are yours like?

Andy 🙂

I would add that increasing the blood flow in the legs through gentle exercise and massage would both most likely be beneficial, but keeping BG levels in range as much as possible through diet (low carb) and medication will also be very important.

Blood levels were normal 5.6 when they tested. In AEC not been testing regularly at moment as they seemed to be in range and hba1c was 51 in April.

Been cycling to work 6 days a week about around 8 miles and doing longer bike rides on days off.

So thought everything was in control so was shocked and bit worried to see infection gained hold do quick.

Thought they was Ok see other reply but just checked this morning and 10.9 so best start monitoring again

Yes, it looks like the HbA1c is telling a slightly different story to the original spot check I think (but only slightly). Good that you checked again this morning. Hopefully you can get a handle on what is causing the high reading and can correct it. If not, then you probably need to have a chat with your GP/DSN especially in relation to the infections.

Oh, one other thing. Cut your nails! I'm terrible for not doing that and my wife is quite right in telling me off. It'll help when you have the urge to scratch those itches. Of course, feel free to tell me off if your nails are already perfect! 🙂

Your spot on my nails were a bit unkept, now cut as neat I can.

Managed to see an out of hours nurse last night and going to see her again for more advice , she was a welcome mlelief (was in support of low carb diet) after trouble of getting appointments previously.

Now need into myself into constant self care routine again
