Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
Hello everyone, I have just been told that I am pre diabetic and that I need to change my diet and exercise but at the same time my doctor told me that I have high blood pressure and have an overactive thyroid so my question is can the pre diabetes and blood pressure be linked to the thyroid problem as I am hoping these symptoms will disappear once I have the thyroid problem under control, (I am waiting for tests to be done re thyroid).

Thanks for taking the time to read this

Hi Janybaby,
High Blood Pressure and Pre Type2 Diabetes often go together the normal link is being overweight an having excess visceral fat - i.e. fat around the belly or internal fat.
However these 2 would normally be linked with Underactive Thyroid rather than overactive!

So I suggest that you start to cut out as much sugar, fruit juice and starchy carbohydrates: Rice, Pasta, potatoes, bread, cereals as you can easily manage. Add more food from meat, fish, eggs, cheese, nuts and leafy green (or at least above ground) vegetables. This works for most even if A). They aren't even overweight, B). They don't actually cut Calories at all.
C). They take no extra exercise (although still do some moderate exercise).

The above will A). Maintain your metabolic rate (unlike dieting which normally makes things worse by reducing it).
B) Will reduce your Blood Glucose and thus your insulin.
C). Start burning up any extra body fat, including internal body fat if you are Thin Outside Fat Inside (TOFI).
D). If all the above works then you will lose some weight, which will lower your Blood Pressure.
Two problems fixed with a simple 'Way Of Eating' approach.

Best wishes,
Ian

Thanks for the info Ian, I will have a go at the foods you suggested. I am not obese but do need to lose about a stone mostly round the belly as that is where my fat seems to be stored lol
