Doctors do say some strange things - so I hope that you will see some significant results with your test tomorrow.

My finger Prick test 2 hours after dinner was 5.4 highest it’s ever been but we will see what the test shows

Hi I went to Doctors today was told that an HBA1C test now would not prove anything as only two months since my last one, however I insisted and he gave me a form to take to hospital tomorrow will post results as soon as

Normally done every 3 months. so if you've only been 2 months its not likely to be as good as it might be after 3 months. Hope you will find a reasonable reduction.

I am no medic but I would say your current dose of metformin is too high and could be reduced. Your HbA1c results will tell 🙂 good luck.

Only just seen this thread.

I was diagnosed ten years ago with an HbA1c of 13.3%. I was initially on gliclazide and then metformin. After just three months I decided to stop the metformin too. I did regular spot BG checks for a bit so that when I told my GP I had the evidence to back up my decision.

Anyway, I have been diet controlled ever since. With a little bit more effort in my part, I should be able to stay that way a little while longer! 🙂

What was your range Andy as evidence?

What was your range Andy as evidence?

Well, for the week after stopping the metformin, my ranges were (I kept my log book!):
Before Breakfast : 4.6mmol/L to 5.8mmol/L
2hrs After Breakfast : 5.2mmol/L to 6.2mmol/L
2hrs After Midday meal : 4.9mmol/L to 7.2mmol/L
2hrs After Evening meal : 5.3mmol/L to 6.7mmol/L

Then for the ten months after that my highest reading was 8.9mmol/L. The vast majority being 4's, 5's and 6's. The bad readings were always attributable to 'indulgences' (like a full blown Chinese with rice portion to match!). 🙂

Well got my HBA1C result today

58

so a massive improvement from 110 this doctor was happy and said if I carry on like this I should be off medication within 2 months, still some work to do but am determined to finish the job off
I still have to carry on with the metformin 2000 a day

Wow! Well done! That is a fantastic achievement and it sounds like you have an open minded GP who is supportive of your approach and goals to come off medication. Keep at it and you will soon be back into the normal range. You have every right to be extremely proud of yourself.

Thanks next HBA1C test booked for 30th January will be doing all I can to be below 41 by then

Great result!
