Hey everyone, still struggling with medication had Metformin and Glycozide. Been off work now for 4 weeks due to horrible side effects, is this normal??????

All drugs (that actually do something) have side effects, and sometimes they're horrible. So make sure whoever's in charge knows so they can try to fix it. I'm sure they don't want you stuck on medication that makes you ill enough you can't work.

Please tell your team/nurse straight away .Metformin is well known for putting it politely, digestive tract side effects, as can Gliclazide.

Ask for the slow release metformin as it's kinder on your tum.
Also look at the amount of carbs you are eating as people do say the more carbs you eat with Metformin the worse the side effects.

I was eating under 50 gm of carbs a day and had a very bad reaction to Metformin, so it is not always down to consuming carbs.
It was such a relief to decide to throw out the tablets, mentally as well as physically.
Rather galling to find out that the low carb eating was all I needed - when tested again I was no longer in the diabetic range, and at 6 months had dropped to the top end of normal. All that misery and embarrassment for nothing. At three years from diagnosis I am still maintaining about the same Hba1c as at six months.
