i have just purchased a phone with NFC so that I can now use this with my Libre sensor.
That has been updated, but I have not yet updated my reader and can’t do that until I start a new sensor. (I usually run away from tech stuff so feeling very pleased to have done all this without asking OH to do it all. To you youngsters that will seem ridiculous, but hey ho)

I have tried to get the answers to these questions and failed, so I thought I would ask the experts. My current sensor has been running for two days already

- Can I swipe with my phone now and use both my reader and phone (one updated one not)
- Do you have to activate a sensor with the reader or can the phone do this?
- when using both reader and phone do you have to swipe the phone within a certain time after the sensor has been activated.

Hi @SB2015

My phone automatically updated while using a sensor a couple of weeks ago it didn’t cause any issues. The reader / scanner wasn’t updated and still read but ever so slightly up at about 0.3mmol units higher.

A sensor fell off last night (luckily I had a spare and Abbots are replacing it) and before I put the new one on my OH updated the reader / scanner (I worry about technology!) which I always use to start a sensor then periodically (usually during the night so I don’t smash phone) scan with. If you start with scanner THEN start up on phone you can use both.

I believe if you start sensor with a phone then the scanner won’t work but I’ve never tried so not 100% sure

As for using the phone after activating with the scanner / reader sometime later. I think that’s ok to do and will work. I think I tried that 2 days before a sensor ran out to check it worked!

Hope that helps

I updated the reader and I had no problem I just followed the links and followed the instructions.

From the FAQ:

If you want to use the reader and the app on the same sensor, follow these steps:
  1. You MUST use your reader to start a new sensor. A sensor started with the app cannot be used with the FreeStyle Libre reader.
  2. Once the sensor is started with the reader, open your app and scan your sensor with the app
  3. Once the sensor has warmed up, you can use either the app or the reader to check glucose for up to 14 days.
  4. Scan the sensor with the reader or app within an 8-hour time period to avoid gaps In data.
For 2, I thought there was some time limit (so you had to use the phone within an hour of starting up the sensor with the reader), but maybe I'm misremembering (or misunderstanding). (Or maybe I'm right and it's mentioned elsewhere.)

1 - You should be able to swipe with the phone now as the app update states you can now use a phone at any point during a sensor whereas before the update you had to use the phone within the hour start up time if you wanted to use both reader and phone

2 - You can activate it with your phone BUT if you chose to do that you will only be able to use your phone, if you want to use both reader and phone it must be activated with the reader first

3 - Already answered in #1 lol

Hope that helps! 🙂

Thanks to you all.
I was nervous of using phone if it mucked up sensor so early in its ‘life’
Thanks @Kaylz for explaining why I had thought there was a time limit.

I have just tried to do it on the phone and nothing happened.
Do you have to do something first to make it happen?

I looked at the how to do it in the app, and it seemed to say just activate app and then hold it near.
(Now I am in the it won’t work for me bit.....) grrrr

Which phone are you using hun? You have to get the NFC chip right over the sensor to pick it up and hold there for a few seconds, it can be a bit of a faff until you learn where exactly the chip is unfortunately xx

I have just bought a Samsung A40, as my old one did not have NFC chip.
How do I find out where the NFC chip is?

I am assuming that you have to open the app first.

I don't know if it may tell you in the instructions

I have a Samsung A7 and say if I lay my phone so the back of it is facing up my chip is to the right side of the phone up near the top, it may just be a case of hovering the back of your phone and moving it around until you find it

if its the only thing on your phone that uses NFC you should be able to do it without opening it but as I use the Samsung Health app as well I need to open the app first xx

Step 1 I got the beepy noise. Now I can’t get the display of my glucose reading and graph.
How do I get that. Do I need to wait a while?

Yippppppppppeeeeeeeeee
Thanks all.

It is so much easier to read in the phone than on the reader.

I suspect I shall still need to use reader when playing sport as stuffing my phone down my bra might not be so easy and having to put the password into the phone before activating it is a hassle.

Thanks for your patience with such a tech numpty.
don't be daft, if you don't know, you don't know, takes nothing to give help if you know, glad that's you got it all set up and working 🙂
xx

I have tried use with my phone but could not get it to work.
I found that I did not have NFC on my old phone. Could that be anything to do with it.
